I am going to Philmont Scout Ranch this summer for a backpacking trip and I need to buy a new sleeping pad. What is an inexpensive lightweight sleeping pad that is compact that I should use?

Lightweight, compact and inexpensive? It is almost impossible to get all three. I used the Z-Lite the first time I went to Philmont. It is light and inexpensive but it is not compact. It is about 5 x 5 x 20 inches. The last time I went, I used a Big Agnes Air Core. It is a little over a pound and is about the size of a one liter water bottle. It is a little pricey ($50 at REI) but I’ve had mine for 5 years of heavy use and have had no problems. One of my sons had to get his replaced under warranty and they replaced it quickly without any hassles.
Have a great time at Philmont.
The Z-Lite is the most common sleeping pad used at Philmont. It is better than nothing, but it is not the most comfortable of the most compact. The Z-Lite will work for Philmont.
