I am having problems sleeping. For the past three weeks as soon as I get into bed around midnight, I toss and turn for a good hour before going to sleep. After that, I wake up around 3 in the morning and then 6 in the morning. Then I finally wake up around 9. I am exhausted yet I cannot go back to sleep.
Then, Sunday night I went to bed around midnight again and could not fall asleep until 4 in the morning. I tried watched some DVD’s and could not go to sleep. Finally I turned the weather channel on and finally went to sleep. Then I woke up at 6, 8, and finally 9:30. Last night I went to bed around 11:00. I tossed and turned for about an hour, then turned on ESPN and finally went to sleep around 1:30-2 in the morning. I am exhausted. How can I cure my sleeping problem? I have tried diet change, exercise, and even warm milk (which I hate). Is there any over the counter drug I can take that will not make me dependent?
i’ve tried everything under the sun. In response to the first answer by beci. I have tried everything you have said already. I just need to know about over the counter pills that I can take when I need it. I am already sleepy when I am going to sleep or else I would not try to go to sleep

Hello, I’ve always had sleep problems since I was a kid and I’m not certain if it is insomnia, or just me. It usually takes around 2-3 hours to fall asleep (every night unless I am sick) and I tend to get frustrated over stupid things that I regret later. I heard insomnia is something that people experience at one point, or their whole life, having trouble sleeping or staying asleep or both. Usually while laying down I have too much going on in my head and I can’t seem to tone it down. Does insomnia effect the whole night or just takes several hours for one to fall asleep? My question is, is my sleeping problem chronic insomnia or just me?

Here’s my problem I either sleep about 0-4 hours a day then I wake up and no matter how tired I am I can’t go back to sleep AND about once a fortnight I will totally crash from like 6 am to 6 pm only to feel so much worse.
I think I have a sleeping problem bu ti don’t know what to do. I’m 16 BTW so sleeping pills aren’t a great idea plus I love the whole having the REM cycle thing.
Any ideas?
I’ll probably try most of them out, the one that works the best will get the points. If none of them work whoever wrote the nicest question will get them. (PS It’s 1.33 am here and I still aint sleep, gotta be up for school in 5 hours)
I don’t have ANY caffeine in my diet.
Seriously no coffee, no cola etc
I might eat a bit of chocolate during the DAY

Can anyone (teenager) relate to this sleeping problem?
I’m 16 and a semi-busy student in High School. My sleeping habbits have gotten rapidly this year in particular. I can never get to sleep at night and am always wanting to fall asleep in classes. I’ve tried everything and I can never get my sleep back to normal. I think I might have some sort of abxiety. On weekends and vacations I’m able to fall asleep fine at a decent time, but for some reason I think the thought of knowing that I have school the next day keeps me awake. I’m always thinking, "ok fall asleep…now" and glancing at the time. Why do I only have trouble sleeping during the school year on weekdays. Can I solve this problem on my own?

Whenever I lie on my bed, I think about the most random things and it takes an average of 1 hr to fall asleep. Even if I know i am tired, I cant fall asleep. Also, if there is something important or urgent on my mind that I keep thinking about, then it could be several hours before falling asleep. My mind is just thinking about everything. What should i do to help the sleeping problem

Also I am posting this here because I’ve posted it in the medical area but to no avail, AND this board always gives good answers.

I’m 20 years old and I have a sleeping problem. I can sleep a 13 hour night and I am still dead tired only a couple hours later, and I go back to sleep, i just can’t get enough. I always want to lay down and I can’t even get a job because of htis. I’m always tired. I take Celexa for anxiety, but that’s it. This has been going on for the past few months. I would go to the doctor but I don’t have insurance, so do you have any ideas?
I have been taking celexa forever, i’ve never had this, i’m sure it’s not from that

Please dont respond with the quick ‘go see a doctor’. I have a sleeping problem. I am an adult and have been ahving this problem ever since i can remember. If i am idle for more then 15 min i start to get drousy, if im in the reclining position i will fall asleep in 20 min no matter where i am or whats going on.
I work and go to school, if i have a day off i will spend the day sleeping… all day. Friday i went to bed at 8pm, i didnt wake till Saturday at 4pm, then went back to bed Saturday at 6pm and work Sunday at 5pm. If i am left alone i will sleep 23 hours aday. To wake me it takes alot of effort, and even more effort to stay awake.
I excercise between school and work, usualy it wakes people up but it makes me drousy. I have good eating habbits, no junk good, and eat 3-4 times aday.
This is a real problem for me and my family, ive seen a therepist for help, after evaluation they said i wasnt drepressed and there wasnt much to do.
Please help….

I know someone who gives someone else sleeping pills–because they have a sleeping problem from a trauma. But i believe the giver of the pills is trying to take control of the one they are giving it to. If this person loves the other person, shouldn’t they try to help them ween off of them?
