I am in desperate need of a sleep study?

Unfortunatly my insurance is crap and won’t cover it and I can not afford to pay 0-0 for one. Does anybody know of a sleep study center here in San Antonio that works off of a sliding scale fee or will work with me as far as a payment plan is concerned??

Sleep Apnea possible misdiagnosis?

I just had a sleep study done at my local sleep center and the doctor diagnosed me with sleep apnea. I am having a little apprehension about this diagnosis because my symptoms do not match any of the normal symptoms. I have fatigue, difficulty falling asleep, difficulty staying asleep, sleep walking and talking(the talking more frequent) and hallucinations while I am sleeping. The last symptom is almost like I am half asleep but I am conscious of my surroundings. For example, I was sleeping but I thought my puppy was laying on the bed with me but he clearly was not. I just wanted to know if anyone else has had my symptoms or even I would like your general input.

At my doc’s request, I did a sleep study last week.

Doc called me today, said I have "severe sleep apnea."

I said, can’t I just lose weight? (I could lose 60 pounds before I get near "normal" sized.) He said it is "not enough" right now.

Got an appt to see him next week.

Anyone had any personal experience with this? Any advice comments or suggestions?

Im 18 years old and have around 2 1/2 years off drugs and alcohol, i was diagnosed with Hyper-somnia after taking a sleep study, which tells me that i sleep to much. I have also had doctors say i am borderline narcoleptic and after several trial and errors i was prescribed vyvanse which works wonders.

After searching for related sites or articles over cocaine abuse being linked to narcolepsy i could find nothing.

I have tried a lot of things from reduced salt, to no salt to walking and working out and my blood pressure is still high – 140/xx (don’t remember the bottom number). I don’t want to take medication for it just yet. I want to get it down naturally.

I also found out I have sleep apnea, but still waiting for a sleep study for confirmation. So, just how significant could Sleep Apnea be in regards to High Blood Pressure?

I need CPAP, I haven’t started yet. Does Blus cross cover the cost? They seem expensive. Thanks.
Id idn’t realize that I have to go to the sleep clinic again to determine the pressures etc. Is it the same torture as a regular sleep study?? That was rough, and I do not look forward to it.

Any ways to increase time spent in Rem Sleep?

I have severe insomnia, I have difficulty falling asleep, and difficulty staying asleep. I had a sleep study done once, and I was informed that when I enter into the deeper stages of sleep (Rem and such) that for some reason I came right back out of them, sometimes coming fully awake. This seems to be part of the reason why I wake up, as I usually awake during dreams.

My question is, is there ANY possible way to keep my brain in the deeper stages of sleep? I have seen a sleep specialist, he basically just said " sucks to be you" and then added that I was too young to be prescribed sleep aids.

I have just been diagnosed by my sleep specialist after doing an overnight sleep study that I have Upper Airway Resistance Syndrome. He says that my daytime fatigue and sleepiness is due to the fact that I wake up multiple times a night because of my difficulty breathing (consciously and unconsciously). However, he told me that I did reach deep REM sleep and did dream. So I’m not entirely sure I understand why this makes me tired throughout the day. I understand there are five stages of sleep, so if I wake up during any of these stages, mainly the deep sleep stage, does that mean my sleep cycle starts over? Am I tired because I don’t spend an adequate (and constant) amount of time in deep sleep (restorative sleep)?

And what exactly is the difference between REM and NREM and which one gives restorative sleep?

Thanks in advance! Sorry for all the questions.
Oh and one more thing…

What exactly causes the memory/cognitive impairment and difficulty in concentration?

I had a sleep study done and it was found that while I do not have sleep apnea, it does take me unusually long to enter REM sleep. It takes a normal person 1 hour to enter REM sleep, while it takes me 5 hours to enter REM sleep. This results in poor quality sleep, and me being exhausted the whole next day. On average, I sleep 12 hours a night, which I’m aware is not normal. I’d like to get this corrected as fast as possible. My primary care doctor referred me to an Ear, Nose and Throat specialist, who has now referred me to a Neurologist. I also may be seeing a Pulmonoligist. Is there anything these doctors can do? Any surguries or medications that I can take? I’d be willing to do anything. I’m sick of being exhausted all the time.

fibromyalgia and REM sleep?

I was watching a show last night (not on FMS) and they said the lack of REM sleep makes Neurons stop working. a person who went without sleep for 11 days died as a result.

A theory is that there is a problem with REM sleep in FMS.

I did go for a sleep study-the results did indicate a lcak of REM sleep, but I was not actually sleeping-I was unconscious as the medication I took dropped my blood pressure to 60/40 (zanaflex). So I don’t know if the results are valid.

Does anyone else with FMS know that have a problem with FMS.

If this is true and we are not getting proper REM sleep and our neurons are dieing-that would mean the disease is actually progressive.

There is also another theory of a deficiencey with a chemical needed for bone and muscle repair-if that is true-our bones and muscles will get weaker and therefore it is progressive. If this is true-it is only partially progressive…

I have had FMS for at least 30 years-have gone into periods of minimal symptoms,
but have always been weaker than my peers-and the gap has slowly become wider-I can’t do things I did a couple years ago..even when the symptoms have gone away-it seems that my strength was still gone….
novice-there is NOT inflammation with fibromyalgia
Informed answers about REM sleep/brain chemical for muscle repair appreciated….

I am not looking for treatments with this question….
