I was doing research because I had been recently esperiensing something called Sleep paralysis. The funny thing is that when I was reading throught the info, everything described is what i expecienced. This is what i found.

Sleep paralysis is a condition characterized by temporary paralysis of the body shortly after waking up (known as hypnopompic paralysis) or, less often, shortly before falling asleep (known as hypnagogic paralysis).Physiologically, it is closely related to the normal paralysis that occurs during REM (rapid eye movement) sleep. In that, some scientists and physicians believe it to be a "natural" effect of the sleep cycle.Sleep paralysis occurs when the brain is awakened from a REM state into essentially a normal fully awake state, but the bodily paralysis is still occurring. This causes the person to be fully aware, but unable to move. In addition, this state may be accompanied by hypnagogic hallucinations.
I appreciate the comments dearly!
and I would be more than glad to answer any questions,

does early REM sleep confirm narcolepsy?

if someone were to go to sleep at 11:40 and wake up around 30 minutes later because of a sleep paralysis episode, would that basically confirm narcolepsy, because only(as far as i know) a person with narcolepsy can go into REM sleep(which happens in sleep paralysis) under 70 minutes
Because isn’t REM sleep the final stage of the sleep cycle so what i’m basically asking is can any abnormally early REM sleep confirm narcolepsy in any way?, what if a person went into sleep paralysis right away after falling asleep(onset REM/sleep paralysis) , would that confirm narcolepsy in any way?

Anyone involved in lucid dreaming?

I have sleep paralysis and was recently advised to take up lucid dreaming. It’s the practice of remaining conscious in sleep, more specifically though, in your REM cycle where you dream. As such, one would be able to explore and mold their dreams consciously.

I find this prospect quite interesting, but would like some accounts or opinions on it as well.

Uh, oh yeah. Sleep Paralysis is the state of being stuck in the period between rest and wakefullness. This is also accompanied by sensatory hallucinations (depending on the person). So, stuck and awake, while seeing/feeling/hearing…really scary things.

I would love to get rid of this, so maybe lucid dreaming would be the way.

Grazi.

I understand what sleep paralysis is. I just want to know if there are any other beliefs out there.

How do I know if I have a sleeping disorder?

I have been having a few sleep paralysis episodes ever now and then, and they started again on March 5, 2009, and I have had 2 since then.
In 2008 I used to have them very often, but then they stopped.
When I have them I see figures standing over me.
Could I have sleep paralysis disorder.?
Should i ask my psychiatrist about it tomorrow? (my next appointment)
They are scary! :(

What is a good medication for sleep paralysis?

It seems as though reading through some others’ questions and answers about sleep paralysis, well that they find it harmless. I’m not one that finds it harmless. Some people even say that tranquilizers stop the paralysis, but since i have insomnia not even tranquilizers knock me out. I wake up after being stuck in the sleep paralysis for hours. gasping for air but not being able to move. So for me this is not harmless and most times when i finally do get out of it i’m crying bc of the experience. My dr. for some reason put me on an anti seizure med. which didn’t work. It didn’t make since from the beginning to be even trying it but i was desperate, but no relief. So anyone with answers i’m openly listening and thank you!

sleep disorder? what is this?

i’ve been having this problem for years…probably since i was a teenager. i’ll have a dream in which i think i am awake, and i’m in bed or wherever i was while i’m sleeping. but the thing is i’m always paralyzed and there is ALWAYS some other entity in the room with me – and the thing is NEVER friendly. it is always a vampire, alien, or something malevolent. so my question is – is this a sleep disorder? or just a nightmare? i always wake up freaking scared out of my mind…btw i had night terrors when i was an infant.

any help?
looks like this is it:

sleep disorder?

when i sleep sometimes i it feels like my brain wakes up but my body dosent and i am aware of whats going on but i cant move the only thing i can do is control my breathing which usually becomes rapid because i will start to panic trying to wake myself up this usually lasts for 30 seconds to about 2 minutes its a horrible feeling when it happens. This has been occuring less as i get older, im 30 and in otherwise good heath, but it started when i was17 and it was almost every night several times and then it was accompanied by a severe intense ringing in my ears (that part has not happened in years) but i dreaded falling asleep. The closeset thing ive come up with researching is sleep paralysis which isnt 100% what i think i have. I just wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this or am i crazy

Can anyone explain this sleep disorder?

When I was a child, around 3 or 4, I would wake up essentially having a nightmare. I might see Skeletor from He-Man projected on the wall, emitting too much light for me to go back to sleep. I might wake up and find a bear in my room, or glowing eyes in the darkness. All these things would cease when I left the room and got a drink of water. However, it doesn’t sound like night terrors or hallucinatory sleep paralysis, as I can still remember what I saw and could move around the images, as they were in three dimensions.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this? I can’t find any disorder that matches my experiences.

To add to the weirdness, the house burned down shortly after we moved out.
Hypnagogic Hallucinations sounds possible, but isn’t sleep paralysis included with that?

How common is sleep paralysis without narcolepsy?

I have daytime sleepiness and sleep paralysis, but I don’t think I have narcolepsy. My neurologist sent me to get a blood test because he suspects it….is there anyone else who has had this blood test and what can it tell? Isn’t it possible to have these symptoms without having narcolepsy? I’m afraid this type of diagnosis will hurt me in my career.

I used to sleep through the night without waking up most of the time. Now I wake up maybe 3 or 4 times a night. I never get restful sleep. I also experience a lot of sleep paralysis. Could this be linked to sleep apnea?
