I’m pulling an all nighter tonight because it’s the first day of summer break, and I’m doing it for fun, and I want to do it just to say I’ve done it. I have plenty to do to keep me awake, but my sleeping schedule is going to be out of wack after pulling it. What can I do to get it back to normal after pulling the all nighter? Thanks in advance.

When I’m pulling an all-nighter before an exam, will I perform better if I just stay up all night or sleep for the 3 hours of free time I have left over?

Simply put, I’m almost always tired and lethargic during the day but wide awake and energetic at night. It seems regardless of how much/when I sleep, this same thing happens. I can pull an all-nighter with ease but from about 8am till about 8pm it hurts to try and stay awake and takes a lot of energy. Yes that’s understandable after pulling an all nighter, but once it’s around 8pm, I become wide awake and can usually stay up really late.
I can be tired all day, but once it’s night, I become wide awake and can’t sleep. I lay in bed for up to 6 hours sometimes. And then after that I finally fall asleep and sleep 12 or more hours cause im so tired and even after that much sleep it hurts so bad to try and wake up. I feel like i could sleep forever. i know most people have a hard time getting up early but i think it’s honestly the most painful thing I do. It actually hurts knowing I have to get up but being so tired.
In other words, my sleep schedule is just so effed up and nothing fixes it. I’ve tried drinking milk, doing a routine, all that stuff but it doesn’t work and eventually my body resets itself to being awake all night and tired all day. Another thing, if i have little sleep, i’ll be tired all day and then when i’m done work i have to take a nap. if i lie down just once i’ll be in rem sleep in like 5 minutes. however, if i manage to stay awake till night(it takes so much effort), then my tiredness goes away and i stay up late again and the cycle of pain continues. i dont want to have to resort to taking sleeping drugs. there’s got to be a way to fix this. please help!!!! thanks.

I am a 30 year old female and have had sleeping issues going all the way back to my childhood. It interferes with every single area of my life. I was on ambien for 3 years but got off of it because I didn’t like the idea of having to take a pill for the rest of my life. I tried Melatonin, Lunesta, Sonata, EVERYTHING – ambien is the only thing that works. I’ve been off of it for close to 3 months and my life feels like it’s spinning out of control. I can’t sleep at night, sometimes (like tonight) pulling an all nighter and starting off my morning without sleep. I really think I will end up on ambien again, just for my own sanity. What’s the point of being off sleeping pills but HATING my life because of my sleep issues? I’d rather have to take them and have a normal life again. Will it shorten my life expentancy if I take Ambien everyday for the rest of my life?
