I’m a night owl so I love to stay up late. But lately I haven’t been getting in bed until 4 or 5A.M. I was thinking about taking sleeping pills to force myself to go to bed. Could this be harmful or could it help me to get to bed earlier?
its not that I can sleep its that I wont

Non Stop dreamer-any others? I'm tired…..?

I dream throughout my sleep. Let me preface this by stating I know about REM sleep and the cycles of sleep, etc. Doesn’t work like that with me–not for quite awhile. From the moment my head hits the pillow I am already in an internal monologue, which trancends into dreaming.
I have woke up throughout the night several times dreaming a certain dream and it continues each time I fall back to sleep.
My dream life almost challenges my real life. I vivdly remember each dream. Most dreams involve family or friends in some capacity-some are romantic, some are of a same quasi-real place, many are of me on a mission to find something or be somewhere in a hurry. I always seem to be convincing someone of something in my dreams. Thank goodness my dreams aren’t scary or violent, though many times the feeling is that I have to do something or there will be dire consequences. Bottom line is I don’t get a lot of restful sleep. My mind never rests. Anyone similiar? Any thoughts?
Oh–and I am a night owl. I usually don’t get to bed until 2am – many times later. I think best and am most creative at night.

There’s this job that I’m trying to get that is from 10:30 pm to 6 am. It PAYS, it’s a piece of cake, and I’m more of a night owl than a morning person anyways. However, I don’t see when I would get all my sleep really….. I have school at 1:40pm so I at least need to be awake by 1pm. By the time I drive home and everything from the job, it’d be around 7AM. So I’d have approx 6 hours of sleep (give or take, because I tend to lay there for a long time before I actually fall asleep) before school. Actually probably less than that if I want to eat lunch. I get out of school at 3:15, and home around 3:40 (the traffic is awful). Then sometime in the evening (very flexible and not necessary a specified time I need to be there, but it takes at least 3 hours) I need to go out to the barn and clean stalls (my other job). I don’t necessarily need to do this every single evening, but at least 4 times a week.

So right now my schedule is:

1:40 pm – school
3:15 – get out of school
3:40 – get home
5-8 pm – clean stalls (although again, I don’t do this every single evening, just four evenings a week give or take a few).
3 AM – bed time ;-]

So I do have a lot of free time, however, I don’t know when I would get all my sleep. I would be able to get 5-6 hours of sleep before school, and possible squeeze in 2-3 hours of sleep after school somehow to get my full 8 hours (although I normally like to go for 10 hours or so LOL ;-]
But my problem is, can I still get through enough REM cycles when I split up my sleep into sections like that? a sleep cycle is 90 minutes, correct? I’m just worried that I can’t really split my sleep up like this and still allow my body to go through what it needs to go through during sleep.

BTW I’m an 18 year old female… if my diet is relevant, I’m a vegetarian, and I don’t take vitamins. Oh, and as far as medications, I take Zoloft.
LOL and now it’s gone because someone reported it so you look like your on crack because you’re making a comment about nothing LOL!!!

night owl or sleep disorder?

I know I need 8-9 hours of sleep to really feel good during the day. I’m a student so I have crazy hours but if left to my own devices I’m usually up at 1pm and don’t go to bed before 4am. I’m most productive during 10pm and 4am. I have no trouble falling asleep at 4am. When I have to go to schools to do work I have a really hard time getting up at 630am and going to bed before midnight. It doesn’t matter how long I try to keep this schedule to get used to it, I just never feel good doing it. This started in HighSchool (10yrs ago). Caffeine, diet and exercise are not a factor.

Am I just a night owl or do I have a sleep disorder? My doctor just gave me sleeping pills (Ambien) and told me to take them at 10pm. It works really well but on weekends I fall right back into my usual pattern.
see…now its 4 am and I’m tired/ready for bed. If this had been a week that I had to work I wouldn’t have been asleep before 2am even though I’d been up since 630am and have to do it all over again… wtf?

Actually, my father has given me a new laptop ~ and since the Wireless Network Connection is available, I can barely sleep early like before. In fact, without the computer and my new obsession – surf the Net, I’m indeed a night owl — I tend to think numerous problems I’ve in my life and ponder about my future. Somehow, I’m a college student and having these kind of matters can possibly lead me to bigger problem ~ I am rarely attend classes and losing focus towards my goal in achieving better life.

And, how long and how many naps should he be having during the day? The reason Im asking is because we’re having a hard time getting him on a nighttime sleeping routine. Hes a little night owl, but he will sleep as long as I will let him during the day. So, I need to start waking him up in the morning, and watching how long he naps. I want him to get enough sleep.. I would just prefer it to be at night.

Sleep…..??

I know I’m not insomniac, but I have a hard time falling asleep when I need to. Like if I have school the next day, I have to go to sleep at 11 but at 10:30 I get a burst of energy and just want to do everything I need to do around the house. Then I just stay up and think awhile wishing I could get to sleep until like midnight or later….when I have to get up at 7. I guess I am what is called a night owl. But being tired at school the next day and falling asleep during class isn’t exactly a good thing. Does anyone have any tips on what I can do so I can fall asleep a little faster and relax? Thanks!
Thanks everyone but I reallyyyyy don’t wanna get started on meds.
nevermind that last additional detail lol.
