Why does listening to music on repeat while sleeping changes the sound?
Sometimes I will listen to a song or even a whole album on repeat when I go to sleep. The next morning the music sounds completely different, whether it be the speed of the song, the pitch of the voices or the instruments in the song. After this the song never sounds the way it used to again and is just not as good. Why does this happen? Is it the way your brain processes the sounds that are affected because of exposure while sleeping? Why does this happen?

I sleep on my left shoulder a lot, and when my friends come over and spend the night, i let them have the bed, and i get the floor.
One night, i woke up to find a horrible pain in my shoulder, which is probably from sleeping the wrong way on hardwood floor.
But ever since that one night, the pain keeps getting worse and worse.
Every time i sleep on my bed and wake up the next morning on my left shoulder, the pain is back and unbearable. What should i do?

How can I cure my wife's insomnia?

Almost every night she complains that she can’t sleep and so as not to bother me by tossing and turning, she goes out for a drive and comes back a few hours later. The car seems to be soothing to her because sometimes she doesn’t get back until the next morning. She says when she finally gets sleepy she has to take advantage of it because it could pass so she parks the car wherever she is and dozes off until morning. This can’t be good for her because when she gets home her clothes are all ruffled and her make-up is smeared. She looks like she was in a fight and she complains that her back and her legs are sore. This is really annoying to me because in this condition she never wants to have sex anymore so now it’s affecting me.
I need to know how to cure her of insomnia so she can stay home and have a good night of sleep.
BTW, she can’t take sleeping pills because she says it interferes with her birth control pills, and the she said the Doctor concurs.

Thanks for the help.

10 year old with sleep problems?

My son seems to be going to bed and falling asleep fine but then wakes up crying, sweating, and shaking like he is terrified. He says he is not having a bad dream and can’t really explain why he is so scared and he does seem to be having more of an anxiety attack then being scared. I am worried because when this happens he cries uncontrollable for at least 15 minutes and shakes. He always talks to us though uncomprehensible and he always remembers the incident the next morning so I don’t think it is night terrors. I haven’t slept in days because this happens every night and I am worried that he will try to walk around and hurt himself or worse try to leave the house and I don’t want him up crying by himself when he wakes. Has anyone else been through something like this and how do I get him to stay asleep without waking up in one of these episodes?
I have had some suggestions about sleep apnea but he doesn’t snore, move around in his sleep, breath difficultly and isn’t overweight.
Thanks he does have a nightlite and we haven’t had any changes. Same house, same jobs, same school (home) same family. I have asked him about neighborhood bullies and sexual abuse he says no to both of these and I believe him. Any other suggestions?

Sleep problems, please help?!?

Hello, i’ve recently been having some major problems sleeping, i’m not sure whether it’s a form of insomnia, but here goes… I generally get around 8 hours of sleep each night, before college the very next morning, but, every now and then, I wake up in the middle of the night, screaming, panicking, sweating, running about, as if sleepwalking but i’m awake, but somewhat uncontrollably.

My dreams generally consist of the same things, it’s either a man at the end of my bed, not necessarily the same man, but as if he’s trying to get me, I wake up just before he manages to get near me, and then I just run out the room screaming in the hallway. Tonight, infact it was rather different, I have a cat, he sometimes comes in via my bedroom window at the top, and he was sleeping on my bed the last I can remember, now, I was slowly dozing off to sleep, and I got off around midnight, and all of a sudden, I started to have a dream that was kind of weird, can’t really explain it, but it was basically as if something was on my light, it was either the following things:

My cat was asleep on my bed, and another cat was by the window, thus causing my cat to go nuts, then me in turn…

Something else came into my room, animals wise, bats, squirrels, etc etc, and that freaked me out.

My cat moved, freaked me out and then he jumped off, thus causing movement around my light? Possibly…

Regardless of any of the above, I now have insomnia, absolutely shattered but can’t sleep due to the fact I am so nervous and somewhat antiscipating something but am not sure what.

I’m really not sure what to do, it may just be something on my mind, making me go a little loopy, or something else, if somebody could help me, I would very much appreciate it.

Do you have problems sleeping next to someone?

I just cant seem to get a good nights sleep laying next to someone else, i feel uncomfortable all night long, and am still tired the next morning. I dont want to hurt his feelings tho, so I’m not sure what to do. But It seems like alot of people I know have the opposite problem….they have trouble sleeping if theyre NOT laying next to someone….
Oops posted this in the wrong place, sorry.

How can I make myself fall asleep faster?

Lately I’ve had a lot of things going on(not always bad) but it’s been on my mind when I try to sleep. I’ve tried things like hot tea or watching a little tv but it’s not working. Its taking me like 2 hours to fall asleep even if I’m tired and really making me miserable the next morning!

Could I have a sleep disorder?

I hate this… I have very eradic sleep patterns and can’t even follow them myself. Some nights I need 13 hours of sleep, other nights I only need about 7 to feel well rested. Often I’ll go to sleep at 7 or 8 PM one night then be up till 5 or 6 AM the next. I can never force myself to go to sleep or to wake up. I take melatonin but try to limit my doses because I’m uncomfortable with the idea of medication, though this has stopped working and I need to take larger and larger amounts. It is so frustrating because I often miss things because I thought I would be awake but instead am sleeping. I’m so tired of spending my days exhausted because I only got 2 hours of sleep the night before unable to get to sleep any earlier. This is out of control and I want this to end. My dream would be to go to sleep at 10 or 11 PM every night and fall right asleep without hassle, then wake up at 7 or 8 the next morning feeling well rested. Could I have a sleep disorder? And if not what is causing this?

It frustrates me so much when people say, "Oh, just go to sleep and wake up at the same time each day and all your sleep problems will go away." I would if I could, but often I can’t fall asleep! And then they say, "Oh, just wake up earlier," but then I just end up sleep deprived and miserable, until about 8 or 9 when suddenly the tiredness goes away and I finally feel awake, right when I want to be going to sleep.

If I fall asleep at work again, I might get fired.

What is the best OTC sleep aid?

I need a good over the counter sleep aid that won’t make me drousy the next morning. I’m thinking Tylonol PM may do the trick, but I don’t need pain relief. I just need to get my sleep schedule back on track.

How do you like/dislike the new sleep aid, ROZEREM?

If you’re taking Rozerem, the newest prescription sleep aid, or if you’ve taken it before, I’d love to know what you do or don’t like about it. :)

I’ve been thinking of asking my doctor for it, as it apparently has zero capacity to become "addictive". It also sounds like the most "natural" drug in how it works. FYI: I don’t need sleep help all the time. I only need help when I have to go to bed abnormally early on a particular night, due to having to rise abnormally early the next morning.

My normal "sleep onset" is somewhat late, but that’s OK usually, since my work schedule is flexible and my commute is short. HOWEVER, if I need to be up super-early to catch a plane, leave for a roadtrip, etc., I’d ideally like to go to bed extra early the night before. But, no luck!! :( I’ve tried chamomile, Benadryl, melatonin, meditation, warm baths — I just can’t fall asleep at a time my body &/or brain perceives as "way too early".

THAT’S when I hope a pill like Rozerem can help! :)

Symptoms insomnia related or something else?

For probably the last several months I have had trouble falling asleep at night. I usually wake up around 10am and avoid taking naps or drinking coffee during the day. I’m usually awake at night until at least 3 or 4am. I get tired but just can’t fall asleep. I function alright during the day, I mean I am getting about 6 hours of sleep. But the continuing sleeplessness is a little nerve racking.

I have tried taking baths before bed. I drink quite a bit of soda but have been drinking caffeine free for the past 2 months. I try laying down at a resonable time and just relaxing with the lights out. Listening to soothing music. I’ve also tried a few over the counter sleep aids which only make me extremely groggy the next morning.

I don’t know if necessarily I have insomnia or if another reason better fits. If I’m still having a problem at the end of this month I’m going to the doctor. Does anyone have any suggestions on either information or ideas as to what my problem is?
