I am suspect of sleep neurologists who keep pushing an apnea diagnosis as the problem (vs. narcolepsy, for example) even if a sleep study shows differently. It seems each dr. is located next door to CPAP machine rentals. I’m wondering if they are part owners or stock holders drumming up business. Just asking…
I’ve been to 3 drs. All said the same thing after stating the sleep tests only showed mild apnea. Sleep apnea is considered a sleep disorder and neurologists are usually the treating physician.

Do people with narcolepsy have vivid dreams?

I have been googling about some symptoms for my recent desire to sleep all day, and one of the possibilities (Never mind that I am not a doctor or anything similar, I’m just one of those people googling things on the internet when they feel ill.) is narcolepsy. In one article it mentions that people with narcolepsy go into the REM cycle pretty much upon sleeping. So since REM is when you have dreams would it be correct to assume that people with Narcolepsy have longer and more intricate dreams?

I personally have had dreams that have lasted for hours with immense detail I feel like iv read a book or seen a very complicated movie.

Thank you for the time!

Dreaming!!?

Dreaming is associated with out REM sleep cycle. Researchers have found that:

a – the deepest sleep occurs mainly in the first few hours of sleep.
b – most dreams occur during the first 2 hours of sleep.
c – the time for dreaming is spread evenly throughout the total sleep period.
d – dreaming is associated with narcolepsy and sleep apnea.

Thank you very much!

Will Methylphenidate (Ritalin) sort out mild narcolepsy or dyssomnia with symptoms including extreme lack of energy, daytime tiredness and difficulty focusing?

I know it is better to avoid drugs when possible, but if it is at the point where action needs to be taken is Ritalin the way to go? What are the risks for a 16 year old girl taking it and will it cause problems later on in life? I appreciate any information you can offer. Thank you :-)

does early REM sleep confirm narcolepsy?

if someone were to go to sleep at 11:40 and wake up around 30 minutes later because of a sleep paralysis episode, would that basically confirm narcolepsy, because only(as far as i know) a person with narcolepsy can go into REM sleep(which happens in sleep paralysis) under 70 minutes
Because isn’t REM sleep the final stage of the sleep cycle so what i’m basically asking is can any abnormally early REM sleep confirm narcolepsy in any way?, what if a person went into sleep paralysis right away after falling asleep(onset REM/sleep paralysis) , would that confirm narcolepsy in any way?

Other than narcolepsy, what conditions could account for or contribute to a decreased latency to onset of REM sleep (i.e., individual begins dreaming less than 3 minutes into sleep cycle)?

I do not sleep at night (frequent awakenings, cannot fall or stay asleep) more than 1-2 hours. I was told that I have depression, SAD, cirrcadin sleep disorder, eating disorder and excessive daytime sleepiness. Two polysomnograms confirmed the sleepiness. After much research, I truly believe I have some type of narcolepsy with both primary and secondary symptoms i.e. fall asleep during classes, have to sleep in my car between classes, hallucinations, memory loss and a close relative who does have it. Any ideas as to what or where I should go to be effectively diagnosed with anything at this point in time.

When I was younger I use to sleep through out the night, but with talking, screaming, sleep walking on average. Now I have problems going to sleep and waking up several times per night. I can easily stay in bed 12 hours straight and still feel sleepy thought my day. I’ve gone to my doctor and had a blood test, but he says nothing wrong. Is a regular blood test good enough to see if you have Narcolepsy or thyroid problem.

Can anyone help me find a documentary on narcolepsy?

In the UK a few years ago, there was a documentary about narcolepsy (the uncontrollable compulsion to fall asleep). For my psychology project part of it is to do with narcolepsy, and I would like to see this documentary again, but I don’t know where to find it. Can someone help me out?

Thank you

Is it possible to have a mild case of narcolepsy?

Is it possible to have a mild case of narcolepsy?
Also could someone not get it until they are 17? Just wondering. I noticed yesterday and today I just suddenly got really tired out of nowhere until I fell asleep (it took about 1 maybe 2 minutes for me to fall asleep) and then I woke up and felt perfectly fine and alert. I am going to try to keep track of it to see if it persists and if it does I may go see a doctor. Can it be controlled?

Can someone suffer from insomnia and narcolepsy?

Remember, there are different types of narcolepsy. It’s not just where you fall asleep when you are walking around. Please only reply if you know what you are talking about or suffer from one of these conditions because I am truly interested in the answer.

narcolepsy?

I’ve been having trouble waking up in the mornings.
I’ve usually woke up at about 8:40 every morning.
But I don’t go to sleep untill 11:30.

Tonight I fell asleep at 11:30, but at 9:40 I FORCED myself to get up, even though I was still VERY tired.

Is this narcolepsy? Or something else?
Also, I haven’t been having any dreams..

I also can’t force myself to fall asleep at a specific time.
