I have developed a bad habit where I go to sleep at 2 or 3 in the morning. It is because of school work…I procrastinate and waste my time listening to music…watching tv..using computer (the biggest problem). Even if I finish homework at 12:00, I can’t fall asleep because I’m used to 2:00. I’m not sleepy at school (I wake up at 7)…I’m used to this. But I know its unhealthy.
I come home and take a nap….which is also unhealthy because I have one messed up sleep routine.
How can I fall asleer earlier…and faster? (I sometimes lay in my bed for an hour before falling asleep)
Should I exercise so I am tired and fall asleep or what? Thanks.

So I have been taking a 3 hour nap in the afternoon recently and going to sleep earlier, I was wondering if this can cause weird dreams, like one I had, was the song King of Anything was playing and then I heard the word vevo being said and then I woke up, and it felt like I couldn’t move my right arm up for a quarter second. Am I crazy or is this change in sleep cycle screwing with me?

Help! My 14 month old son has been sleeping through the night since he was 3 months old, in his own room since he was 5 months old. He started walking at about 11 months and has never had problems sleeping even while teething. Recently, the last 2 months or so, he has stopped napping almost completely. If I lay him down for a nap he will scream until he makes himself sick. The only time he will nap now is when I lay down with him, once he is asleep I get up but he will only sleep for about 30 minutes. If I lay with him for his entire nap sometimes he will sleep for 2 hours or more. We are also having problems getting him to sleep at night, I have been laying him down awake for months with no problem until now. The screaming at naptime has also carried over to bedtime, and he will cry for hours if I let him. He also wakes up crying in the morning and from naps. I start his bedtime routine at 8 and he finally falls asleep around 11, is up at 7 and then sleeps with me until 10. Any ideas?
My son has always been a very happy content baby, until these sleep problems started. Now he seems to be very ill and cranky all the time and has also become very clingy(he has always been a mamas boy but now it is extreme, doesn’t want anything to do with anyone but me). If I do get him to take a nap, after he wakes up crying he is impossible the rest of the day( wanting to be held, crying if I put him down) until bedtime and then the bedtime fight begins. There is nothing wrong with him medically, I think he is just not getting enough sleep. he averages about 10 hrs a night but does not nap everyday) How can I get him to sleep more when he is fighting it so much. Full-time co-sleeping is not an option, we both sleep terrible when we co-sleep(we are too aware of the other person and sleep very lightly).
Thanks for the input so far, Nothing has changed recently. I am a stay at home mom and my husband works all the time so I can stay home and raise our child. No changes except his sleep pattern.

As a longtime certified napper, I find that a short rest gives me a boost to get through the rest of the day. Is this true for most of you?
Why do some people benefit from napping while others seem tireder the rest of the day?
What’s your ideal length for a restorative nap?
Do you only nap when you have not had a full night’s sleep? Or do you nap on days after you have slept well at night?
Does your napping interfere with your sleep at night?
Do you think people experience different REM cycles?
Do you nap on a full stomach or an empty stomach — or does it seem to matter?
As you have aged, have your napping habits changed?
Thanks for your input.

I know my sleeping habits are terrible and I want to fix them in order to focus better in school. I gained them over summer vacation and haven’t been able to get rid of them. They haven’t exactly affected my performance in school, but they have been interfering with my social life.
On school nights, I am usually asleep by around 2-3AM. I wake up at 6:00AM to get ready and go to school. When I get home from school, I usually start on homework or watch some TV, then fall asleep for a 3-hour nap. This 3-hour nap is what has been affecting my social life, because it occurs when my friends are all available.
I’ve tried to fix it myself for a while, going to bed earlier and everything, but that just resulted in me fretting about what went on earlier that day or what will happen tomorrow.
I don’t want to have to resort to using medication. I’m afraid I will get dependant on it and that will cause all sorts of problems.
Help?

I am 15 and have horrible problems sleeping. I have had it all of my life. But now, I can’t even go to sleep. It used to be that it would take some time to go to sleep and then I would wake up every hour. But now, I can’t sleep. I took an Ambien 2 hours ago, and was told it would knock me out, but it obviously hasn’t. I have been to the doctor, they don’t know whats wrong with me. What can I do to get some sleep tonight!!!!!!!!!!
it was 10 mg…..and i don’t drink caffeine….and i can’t nap….i can’t sleep so how do you expect me to nap??? (besides that, the sun shines really bright into my room during the day) and i generrally try to go to bed at the same time and i always get up at 8:15
My doc all ready told me about the tv thing, so I got a chair and put it in my room. I read and do everything in that chair because the bed is for sleeping….for nothing else…haha….my doc gave me that speech a million times….
Yes! I have been tested for thyroid and adrenal diseases……and i don’t want to go through that again…..i hate needles……

I’ve read some article(s) about how new study shows that taking an hour of nap after learning something increases chances of remembering the material. Do you think or know for a fact that maybe having 2-hr naps every 6 hrs in a day (adds up to 8 hr of sleeping time), is better than 8-straight-hrs of sleep in a day? Is it worse? Or makes no difference?

I’m still a school student. I go to sleep anywhere from 12 to 3am and i have to wake up at either 6 or 7am. Then after school i take a nap from 4 to 7pm. I always feel really bad at school and now my grades are slipping. What time should I go to bed and what time should I get up? How do I get my sleeping back on track so i don’t feel so bad?

She is on a routine, every day is the same. She takes her nap at noon, but always wakes up after 30 minutes for me to go in and put her down again. At nigh she is up several times again for me to go in and put her back down. I am at the end of my rope and don’t know what to do. Is "cry it out" the only thing left? I never feed her or rock her to sleep. What can be wrong?

I was told that I have an excessive (WAY excessive) amount of REM sleep. I know that this is the deep sleep but I get this even when I nap! Does anyone know why this is? Simple answers if possible. Thanks a bunch!
