I suffer from severe chronic insomnia. It’s horrible. I don’t take meds or anything I just try my best to deal with it.
So does anyone have any good tips on how to get through the day when you have insomnia and you’re tired and confused all the time? How do you deal with work, school, love, stress, etc?
I don’t need tips on how to fall asleep, as I’ve tried everything in the book. I’d just like to know how other insomniacs cope with everyday life.

My boyfriend is 17 years old and sleeps constantly. I understand that sleeping is a natural an enjoyable habit, but the amount of sleep he wants is a bit excessive. I am no sure why this is,but looking apon looking up sleeping Disorders I found that heart problems can cause you to have sleeping problems. He has a heart murmur and I’m wondering if that is relevant to the problem at all? ( lol I decided to give readers all potential problems ) For example he was recently able to stay up until 4 am one night. I’m not sure how he managed this because most of the time he can’t keep his eyes open after 10:30. Anyhow he went to bed at 4 am and slept until 12:00 then I talked to him for about a half an hour and he passed out … He slept until five then stayed up until 9ish and slept tell 10 the next morning. He seems to always be tired, and I’m wondering if this is something that he should look in to or not .
Also, he does not smoke, use drugs , have an overly stressful life, live in a noisy area, consume alcohol, or consume a large amount of caffeine.
However, he does have AD HD and his meds enable him to stay up until about 4 then he crashes. He doesn’t take his meds often though.

I am at my wits end! I need to know how to get to sleep! I am planning on going to the doctor on Monday but I am in tears I am so irritated! For the past few months I haven’t been getting to sleep until at least 3 in the morning sometimes later than that and my daughter wakes me up for the day at 8 am. My partner started a new job and I have to get up at 6 am to take her (so I get maybe 2 hours of sleep before driving 30 mins to take her to work. By time we get home around 7 am I only get like 1-2 more hours of sleep. Sometimes I nap with my daughter but a one hour nap just makes me more tired so I try not to nap during the day in hopes that I will be tired early and actually get sleep. I have been nauseous all day and only eating maybe one small meal a day due to that (i think I may be pregnant) so I think the stress of not knowing if I am pregnant, not eating well, and getting pretty much no sleep.
Is there any way I can get to sleep earlier? I am waiting to go to the doc until monday because I will hopefully find out if I am preggo on Saturday and I don’t wanna get any meds to help if I am pregnant. I am so exhausted, please help me!

If you have been diagnosed with an anxiety disorder, and also have great difficulty sleeping … do you think the meds cause more damage to your body, or do you think by not taking the meds to reduce anxiety and help your body sleep, that the stress would cause more harm to the body in the long run?
Does it make more sense to get a good night’s sleep and feel healthy, rather than irritable and unable to concentrate?
Aside from the dangers of addiction to meds of course, what do you think is more healthy? With or without meds?

I seem to be having trouble with controlling my thoughts a lot lately. I am happy and excited one moment then I become sad cause I down myself( but that prob has to do with my family always putting me down). I really don’t want to be put on meds for it but I am getting desperate cause I just want it to stop. I relaxed there for awhile and was able to Control my thought there for awhile but its back. Is there any way I can get over this without being put on meds? Could it have to do with the fact that I just can’t be me in my house. I mean it seems like i’m not perfect enough for my family. I mean I get put down a lot. My brothers call me fat or ugly a lot. I am 5’5 and 110lbs and I try to lose more weight just to make them happy. Sometimes I don’t dress the right way for them. Because I have always wanted a horse, its my dream and I am working hard to get one I am childish. I have to do my hair the right way. My dad and I don’t talk at all but I always hear him on the phone saying something to my mom that’s bad about me. I just don’t get it. I think they are making me crazy lol.
I also wated to add that I do stress out about small things. I just can’t let it go at all. I dwell over it a lot.

Is there a chemical or hormonal test a doctor can give you to prove these disorders? OR do they just ask you questions about your mood swings and hand you the anti-depression/psychotics/anxiety prescription?
Has anyone out there been diagnosed with bipolar disorder or manic depression and calmed their symptoms with natural ways like exercise, healthy living, meditation, positive thinking/reading concentration? If so how and what would you suggest as an alternative to pill popping super meds for the rest of your life?

I have tried several anxiety meds with no positive results. This week I started Pristiq – I’m on day five. I do feel a positive difference that I did not feel on the other meds. The only bothersome things are I still have tremors from my anxiety and my drowsiness is pretty bad. I have read that the side effects should dissipate after a week or so. Anyone have any positive experiences regarding this? I don’t want to give up on it since it’s the first drug that actually feels like it’s working.
