Sleep Problems? Need Help!?

OK, I’m a 20 year old female that has been suffering from severe sleep problems for about 2 years now. I can NEVER fall asleep easily. I don’t remember the last time I just laid down and had a good night sleep. I’ve tried everything I can think of:
I haven’t had any soda for 2 months.
I get lots of exercise during the day.
I don’t bring my home phone or my cell phone into the room with me at night. (Used to be a big problem for me)
No matter what time I go to sleep, I always get up around 8-9a which REALLY sucks sometimes, because, like last night I laid in bed til 7.30a before falling asleep.
I’ve tried reading, listening to extremely relaxing music, even watching infomercials.
I don’t know what to do to make my Dr. believe I have something going on with me.
Any suggestions??
I’ve had blood tests run on my thyroid and they say everything is normal, but thyroid problems run in my family. I just don’t think my Dr.’s are caring enough it seems. I ALWAYS feel like they think that I am making it up. I feel like my age makes it look like I will abuse any drug they put me on.

I have been on 20mg of Paxil for about 6 months for bipolar (which I feel is the wrong medication) and I think it gives me nighttime anxiety.

Sleep problems…any ideas?

Im hoping someone can give me some good advice. I have a horrible time trying to sleep every night. I used to take Lexapro because I have serious anxiety issues (PTSD). I began taking the medication simply because I couldn’t sleep. I had to stop taking the Lexapro b/c my husband and I are trying to have a baby, and it needs to be out of my system. I was doing okay for many months off the medication, but recently, I started taking fertility drugs and those have increased my anxiety (the dr. says it’s because of the rise in hormone levels). Anyway…when I try to sleep at night, I have these horrible anxiety problems. It’s almost like that feeling you get when you know you’re in trouble. (Heart beats really fast, and I get that weird burning feeling in my chest, neck and face–ya know what I mean?) Sometimes I can take a Valium and sleep okay, but Im afraid of not being able to sleep without those if we get pregnant. Anyone have any good drug-free alternatives?
I might try the music…I can’t take any diphenhidramine (sp?) which includes over the counter sleep aids and benedryl. (Doc’s orders…they actually make sleeping worse).
Sigh…no melatonin allowed, either, while trying to concieve. Thanks for your suggestions tho!!

My grandmother has been having trouble sleeping lately and honestly it’s been getting extremely annoying. Only problem is she has a thing against drugs and medication so i can’t take her to a doctor to get it checked out nor can i give her a pill knowingly.

Is there such a thing as an over the counter sleeping pill that’s crushable and i can mix in a drink for her?

For years now, I’ve had a problem sleeping. Most nights I only get about six hours sleep (on a good night) with my usual average being maybe three or four.

I’ve been to doctors, only to be prescribed medication that nearly killed me (no exaggeration there) and then when they found out I was allergic to it, I found out that there was nothing else I could take.

So as I sit up this early April First…I find myself asking a stupid question.

What’s the easiest way, without medication, to cure my insomnia and help me sleep? I need the deep sleep, the restful sleep. Something I’ve not had in…well years.

I have been having sleeping problems lately. I don’t dream a lot, just continued voices in my head…which sometimes I hear even if I open my eyes (until and unless I fully wake up). Dreams seem very disturbing and are not pleasant at all.
My main problem however, is that early morning around 3 or 4….I just sit and sleep in sitting position on my bed by resting my head on my arms. Later, when I gain some consciousness…. or when my fingers get too numb….I really don’t have a clue why I am sitting? (Though I do have memory of sitting and to continue sleep in sleeping position….I don’t have memory of why I do that)

I have hypothyroidism….but am on medication of 25 mcg. It’s been very long since I enjoyed a sound, comfortable sleep. Can you suggest ways??

Does oxycontin cause sleeping problems?

My boyfriend is prescribed 80 mg oxycontin, 3 a day for chronic back pain. Since he has been taking this medication he has been having a terrible time sleeping, sometimes only a few hours a night. Is this a common side effect of the drug, and what can he do to help it (home remedies or something a doctor would recommend)? He does not suffer any other side effects from this medication. Thank you for your input!

I keep waking up at about 3am and can’t get back to sleep, and I always feel really hot when I wake up, even though I have a fan in my room and keep the window open. I really need my sleep, I don’t go to bed til about 12am and during the day I just go go go. I don’t want to ask my parents for sleep medication. Any suggestions?

What are some specific medications commonly used to treat bipolar disorder? I’m specifically looking for medications that are combined to treat this disorder. However, if you know if a single medication used to treat it, that information would be helpful as well.

School starts in about 2 weeks, and I can’t seem to get on schedule. I usually go to sleep around 4am and wake up around 2pm. I set alarms but always end up going back to sleep. I don’t have any medication to help me go to sleep, so I’m wondering if there are any tricks to help me fall asleep if I’m not tired. If you could help that would be great :)
