I’m about to get married, and my fiance can’t stand how i sleep! I MUST stop snoring so we can sleep in the same room at least when we get married. I have tried:
-Breath Rite strips, BR throat sprays, and BR mouth gargle
-nasal decongestant pills
-allergy medication
-I sleep on my side
-nasal sprays
almost everything, i would prefer not seeing a doctor, as I have no health insurance at the moment, i’m hoping for another solution!

‘ve had chronic insomnia since I was a baby. It went unnoticed until I was in jr. high and began taking a cold capsule at bedtime when I could not sleep and that helped back then. I was taken to many doctors as I grew up but they always told my mother there was nothing wrong with me and sent me home being scolding for faking illness. I wasn’t faking. I was a very sickly child, chronically fatigue, with little interest in the world and people around me. When I am able to sleep well for at least 8 hours I feel almost normal. But without medication, my brain does not shut down enough to sleep. I quickly develope a tolerance to medications, then the doses are increased which increases the severity or their side effects. I was born a type A Personality and it kills me to sit home when I want to be working. But without a long term relief from my insomnia I cannot work . I need to find a new sleep aid that doesn’t cause me to sleep walk. I’ve already tried all the natural remedies

For the past 6 years I have developed bad sleeping habits. I do have insomnia and am currently taking medication for it, yet it does not help. My doctor wants to up my dosage, but my parents are afraid of an addiction so they refuse. I’m sort of at the end of all my ideas. I can’t seem to sleep correctly. What are some ways that can help me?

It takes me about three hours to fall asleep, and I wake up spontaneously during the night. So I took half of a Unisom sleeping pill last night at about midnight, and I slept hard for twelve hours, right through my alarm. I still feel sleepy, like I could sleep for a whole day. That was the first time I’d ever used sleeping medication, so I’m wondering if this extreme effect will lessen if I continue to use it.
Also, I’d like to know if there’s a natural, healthy alternative to sleeping pills that won’t "knock me out" like this.
Thanks everyone!

Anyone had experience supplementing their progesterone levels in order to treat severe, chronic, Insomnia? Chronic Insomnia is a condition whereby you can’t sleep AT ALL without the aid of medication. Can anyone tell me if it improved / cured their Chronic Insomnia.
Please don’t post stupid answers such as see your doctor or google. Thanks, I’m intelligent enough, I have done both but I still have a problem, that’s why I’m on Yahoo Answers OK? Thanks in advance, if you don’t know the answer to the question, please don’t post.

I’m interested in inducing hallucinations by preventing REM sleep (Please don’t inform me of health issues and stuff I have looked into this not just heard its possible and thought ‘wow that would be cool’) Usually when people do this they just, well stay awake. What I was wondering is if anyone knew of any medication or anything else that could prevent you going into REM sleep without staying a wake, so you fall asleep but not enter REM sleep.

I read that taking antidepressants completely abolishes REM sleep. I was just wondering how long it would take for my body to get used to this medication so my REM sleep came back to normal — if ever?

My adult neice is giving her 8 year old and 5 year old melatonin every night to get to sleep. She claims they need it and that she talked to her doctor and he said it was ok. She also has DSS investigating some bruises on one of her children. I don’t think children should be given this medication at all but wanted some input as the internet didn’t give me good information.

For a few years at the most, I have had trouble falling asleep. I didn’t pay attention to it because I was a kid and it seemed normal. Now, I’m fourteen and I know that something is wrong because the sleeping issue is getting worse. I couldn’t fall asleep AT ALL last night. I need help without medication. This is beginning to cut into school work.

I often awaken violently at night, typically confused about whether I am awake or dreaming. Sometimes I remember these episodes and sometimes I don’t. I have always had problems sleeping but am worried because these episodes have been happening with greater frequency. My wife says it is quite scary and is afraid I’m either going to give myself a heart attack or her. Besides the safety issue, I worry that I am causing her to have such disruptive sleep now as well. What is going on and is this something that can be treated without medication? I am a thin, active male, 34, almost 35 years old who has had various sleep problems since I was a child- insomnia and night terrors mostly.
