what is the best over the counter sleep aid?

I am pretty sure I am addicted to Tylenol PM lol. I know that the "tylenol" part of it is really bad for my liver and I have taken between 2-3 a night for about 4 years. I cant sleep without them. I have been on Ambien and it didnt work at all for me. Is there any other over the counter sleep aids I can take that really work? Or are the prescribed ones the better way to go? Thanks for the help

For someone who has been social binge drinking and smoking cigarettes every friday and saturday night (5 drinks or more per Fri/Sat night) for about 4 years, what can be the effects?

I was living this lifestyle and i have been feeling unwell for nearly 3 months. I have been going through feelings of lightheadedness, dullness, drowsiness, lowsyness, fatigue, muscle weakness & anxiety. I feel as if im high & "not part of this world"…

First thing i got was an ear infection, followed by chronic gastritis/stomach ulcers, then my right vestibular nerve was found to be weak.

I have seen a few doctors and specialists and they have informed me that most things are all normal. All blood tests showed normal results. The only thing abnormal was my liver ALT *83 and ferritin *395 which is slowly decreasing.

I have stopped alcohol & cigarettes completely ever since i was unwell. Is it possible to be having some withdrawal symptoms even if i wasn’t addicted to drinking or smoking?
I’ve seen a Neurologist and an ENT surgeon who say everything is fine.

I guess what i’d like to find out if the way i was living my life before has caused me to feel ill?

If anyone has gone through this, how long did these feelings last?

I keep thinking that something else triggered this like a virus or something, but my lifestyle before makes me think that these are the consequences of my actions.
By the way, i was only a social smoker not an everyday smoker.

I know it’s bad for your liver if you take a sleeping pill after drinking. Does the same apply to Melatonin?

I just quit drinking a week ago. I used to drink about 5 cans a night and then sleep. Now I’m sleeping naturally. The problem is that I get Horrific and/or wierd dreams every night. I only get about 4 hours a sleep; when I wake up, I can’t get back to sleep. I now get tired very easily during the day. I’ve heard that this is normal because my Liver is repairing itself. I also heard that my brain is trying to get used to reaching all 4 stages of the sleep cycle.

What’s going on?

P.S. If you wonder what wierd dreams I’m getting, last night I dreamt that Robocop went to space in a rocket ship. I don’t even like Robocop the movies.

I understand that ethanol is toxic to the human body, in particular the liver. But benzodiazepines and alcohol have cross-tolerance, which is why benzodiazepines are prescribed to treat dangerous withdrawal. But are benzos toxic in any way themselves?

Just curious. Of course, an over-dose of benzos might be considered ‘toxic’; the same with alcohol, but do these molecules themselves pose any danger to the lives of cells in the human body?

Can sleeping pills cause anaphylactic shock?

i have been having some trouble sleeping and before i go to bed, i usually take some sleeping pills which contain diphenhydreamine and if misused can cause an anaphylactic shock. Is that correct? Because i dont want to go into anaphylactic shock the next time i take 3 or 4 sleeping pills. I do know that anaphylactic shock is an allergic reaction but it could also be issued because the kidney or liver doesnt know how to fight off the harmful crap thats in the medication.

Is it safe to take one Benadryl a day for allergies?

I am 20 years old and take about one Benadryl a day for allergies, rarely two. My mom was telling me it can cause heart problems and damages the kidneys/liver and raises blood pressure. Would one pill a day really have this affect or is she just being overly protective?

I take benadryl at night to help me sleep, i have a problem getting to and staying asleep. When i was in the hospital, the nurses would give me benadryl to help me fall asleep, so i haven’t given it much thought about any risks?

sleeping problems?

I have problems sleeping at night and I’m not your average patient. Caffeine puts me out due to my ADD and I have both liver and immune system issues. So most of the ones advertised on TV are ones I can’t take. I just find myself waking up 3 or 4 times every night. Help, sometimes I feel like I’m going crazy.
I don’t take naps during the day, usually. That’s why I’m confused.

I have a friend want use the sleeping pills from the regular stores
the one you don’t need any prescriptions to kill himself and we argue about this product because I believe is not strong enough to commit suicide and I say to him you will only damage your liver and feel very sick…

the sleeping pills without prescriptions are deadly?

Sleeping pills?

Are there dangerous (or any) side effects on your health if you take sleeping pills like, everyday?
Besides the addiction. I’m looking more for the specifics of the health risks on your body caused by taking the chemical in sleeping pills. Like drinking too much does certain things to your liver, smoking causes symptoms in your lungs, etc.
I’m not asking how to fall asleep.

How bad are sleeping pills for you?

Whether this is all in my head or not, I have to take sleeping pills to sleep. They are generic OTC pills, usually the simply sleep stuff made my tylenol or something along those lines. I usually take between 1-2 pills, 25-50 mg of dyphenhydramine at a time, which is the recommended dosage. I have tried to not take them but I can’t sleep, and I’m sure it’s a mind thing now as well as the fact they actually work. But really, how bad would it be if took them everyday? Would it hurt my liver (or kidneys, I can’t remember which one is for meds) any more than birth control or any other meds that we take an a daily or near daily basis?

I take Unisom sleeping pills, one 50 mg pill a night. What type of long term problems will this cause, besides insomnia? Like will it hurt my liver, give me ulcers?
