Everyone tells me I’m too young to be taking sleeping pills to sleep. There is not a single night I haven not taken them. It’s got so bad that there are nights I have to take 3 of them to sleep. Sometimes they dont even work. I don’t know what to do anymore. My last option is a sleep doctor to help me with this. I have become so used to it that I can’t even fall asleep with out them. I have tried so hard to go sleep with out taking them and have been unsuccessful and I really want to stop. Even when I’m so tired I just can’t seem to just fall asleep like I used to before with out them. My family, friends and everyone I know have tried helping me and still no change. I know in the long run it’s really going to affect my health my mom also has the same problem she has been taking them for 20 years now and I definitely don’t want to be taking them for that long. Has anyone ever experienced this or know any remedies. Any advice you can give me would be really appreciated.

Thank you
When I mean sleeping pills, I’m talking about over the counter pills you get at walmart like tylenol. I have never taken any of those really strong ones like ambien. I’m 21 I’m college and I work so I buy everything for myself. My mom doesnt even encourage me to take them. And I will never smoke weed, never have and never will. I think my lack of sleep or not been able to sleep is due to stress in my life, I’ve been through a lot over the past years of my life.

How best to cure insomnia quickly?

I am only thirteen years and since the end of primary school I’ve had trouble sleeping, I rarely get to sleep before 1 or 2 in the morning and I am always exhausted for school, I can’t remember when I didn’t have bags under my eyes from lack of sleep.
I can be completely exhausted to the point where I feel too tired to walk upstairs but as soon as I hit the pillow, wide awake. I feel boiling hot to the point where I can be sweating, though no one else has trouble in my room so I don’t believe it is today with the actual room temp. No matter what and I just cannot sleep or get comfortable.
I have tried listening to music and reading in bed but neither of these things or helping but it is getting really hard to keep up energy when going off so little sleep and seeing as I’m not building the energy back up at weekends I’m just getting tireder if anything.
Any ideas on how I can get to sleep easier?

Is this stupid? this is gonna sound kinda insecure..?

I am in my 4th year of university majoring in economics and in the 4th year all the classes are 3 hour seminars in which a small classroom of ppl discuss the weekly readings. Missing classes is looked down upon since you loose marks and plus it really looks like you are not taking things seriouly since most ppl at this stage of the game are plannig on some type of grad school and are presumably making mostly As and B+s. (participation overall is worth 20% of the final mark). Its not like previous years where you can miss a class here and there and no one cares/notices. At anyrate, eversince about october i have been suffering from a sleep disorder which my doctors have not been able to specifically diagnose untill lastweek – I have nocturnal myoclonus which means that my legs involuntarily spasm during sleep which apparently wakes me up about every 10 minutes (the sleeper has no memory of this) and disrupts my REM cycle, rendering me extreemly sleepdeprived – it is hard for me to be at my academic best this way as i cannot concentrate well, and am sick CONSTANTLY because lack of sleep weakens your imune system. Anyway i long ago dropped 2 of my 4 classes so that i could make good marks since the sleep thing was affecting my school work. My profs are aware of my problem and very supportive if it so i should be able to get a decent participation mark despite being absent sometimes. So now I am finally being treated for my illness. The other day, i had made a comment in class and someone responded by saying "oh yes, such and such as talking about that last time…" and some ppl giggled and rolled thier eyes at me. ‘last time’ I had an important doctors appt at the sleep clinic that i couldnt reschedule. Also, because i am severely sleep deprived, i sometimes say things that are a little strange because, well frankly its had to put sentences togeather in this state. Afterall I have trouble staying awake in class! That day it occured to me that ppl might actually be judging me for missing classes occasionaly!! Dont ppl realize that ppl have good reasons to miss classes?! Im still doing well in the classes – I have a high B+ in both of them and am aiming for an A. Are ppl actually judging me? Im not someone who generally cares what others think but this is just one more thing in my life right now that makes me go ‘ugh’.
sorry, i didnt realize that it would be that long lol!
i just started treatment the other day since my condition was only recently diagnosed specifically – before my doctors only knew it was a sleep disorder but not what kind so they couldnt treat it. Now i take pills and i feel a lot less tired

It has been a week now that I have a hard time falling asleep. On the first night I thought there was nothing wrong but as days goes by, I have noticed that I have been moody at work during the day. Is this because of lack of sleep? Please help.

I’ve have terrible, drug-resistant insomnia for over thirteen years, and am now at the point of being on disability because of the toll my chronic sleep problems have taken on my body and mind. Of course, I’m seeing a therapist regularly and always trying every new remedy anyone wants me to try, but what more can I do? What vitamins and minerals am I likely to have in short supply, or what should I take to ward off more ill effects from lack of sleep?

REM SLEEPING PROBLEM/ WILD DREAMING?

I’ve been trying to lucid dream for a while and none of the methods are working (dream journal, memory cues, etc) and so I’ve decided to try WILD (Wake-Initiated Lucid Dream) dreaming however i’m not sure when I should set my alarm to wake up in the night. I’m a freshmen at a really intense art university so I’ve been getting less sleep. Lots of all nighters and on average I get 4-7 hours of sleep (usually 4) so i’m not sure when I should wake up during sleep. Lucid dreaming says that people enter REM around 5-6 hours into their sleep but i think i’ve tricked my body into entering that sooner because even with 4 hours I feel fine the next day.

so here’s my question:

-is it possible to force your body to fall into REM faster?
-if so, What time should I wake up to WILD dream if i sleep 5 hours a day?

please only answer if you have had experience with WILD dreaming or you are familiar with REM and sleep cycles, and please no comments about how unhealthy my lack of sleep is. I am already aware of this. thank you!
Could somebody list the factors that determine when a person REMS (age, weight, etc) or is it some magical universal set-in-stone time?

General advice is welcome, if you don’t want to read my two mini-essays, but still have advice for people with problems such as mine, just go ahead and answer. I understand some people don’t want to read it all.

My insomnia status: I wake up 6-10 times throughout the night, sometimes to pee, sometimes for no apparent reason at all. It usually takes me anywhere from 5-45 min to fall back asleep after each one, and that’s after my usual hour or two to fall asleep in the first place. I set aside 8 hours each night for sleeping, but get between 2-5 hours per night. I have tried many of the little lifestyle changes you can make (i.e. more exercise, cutting out stimulating activities for the last few hours before bed, no caffeine etc) and though sometimes it seems like they help, i still cannot consistently sleep well.

My social anxiety: basically I’m not afraid of talking to other people, if I feel I have something on my mind and worthwhile to say. However I am terrified of small talk simply because It’s not something I think about on my own, and really don’t know how to come up with conversation on the spot. Any social situation that involves me having to make small talk will make me start to feel sick thinking about it. People always tell me I seem either distant or really nervous, because my mind always either freaks out or spaces out in those situations.

When researching I found one of the causes of social anxiety is lack of sleep. And alternatively, curing any anxiety can also be a big part of curing insomnia. Lol contradictory

I've got sleep problems. Any help?

For the past few nights, I’ve been having sleep problems. I can get to sleep just fine, but I always wake up several time after that for periods of about half an hour. During those periods, I try to go back to sleep, but I seem to be thinking of a million different things. Then I wake up relatively early. I’d really like some help, since I’ve been getting daily headaches and bouts of nausea from lack of sleep. Is there any way to get to sleep and stay asleep that doesn’t involve taking sleeping pills?

Manic episodes and insomnia?

I was diagnosed with manic depression about two yers ago. Most of my family has it too.
I’ve been a little manic lately:
Eating less
Clenching my jaw and chewing on the inside of my cheek
Biting my lip till it bleeds
Jittery
Racing thoughts

All the usual symptoms.

I know that lack of sleep can bring on a manic episode, but my question is : Does mania cause lack of sleep.

Because I haven’t been able to sleep in two days.
I took the sleeping pills prescribed to me for insomnia.
I took my anti-anxiety medication.
But absolutely nothing seems to work

i even tried hot showers, baths, warm tea… all the supposed cures for insomnia but they haven’t worked either.

Is my mania causing my insomnia?
Oh and I should probably mention that i am on adderal too.
[I'm one messed up chick]
I stopped taking it for a month and fell into a trance like state where I was asleep all the time.
So I started taking it again and now i can’t sleep at all.
I am on mood stabilizers
And anti depressants
And anti anxiety medication
And Adderal

Wow. That’s kind of embaressing to admit

I go to a neurologist. He’s supposed to be really good.
But even he is starting to get perplexed.
