Is it safe to take one Benadryl a day for allergies?

I am 20 years old and take about one Benadryl a day for allergies, rarely two. My mom was telling me it can cause heart problems and damages the kidneys/liver and raises blood pressure. Would one pill a day really have this affect or is she just being overly protective?

I take benadryl at night to help me sleep, i have a problem getting to and staying asleep. When i was in the hospital, the nurses would give me benadryl to help me fall asleep, so i haven’t given it much thought about any risks?

could it damage my body e.g liver, kidneys ect….

How bad are sleeping pills for you?

Whether this is all in my head or not, I have to take sleeping pills to sleep. They are generic OTC pills, usually the simply sleep stuff made my tylenol or something along those lines. I usually take between 1-2 pills, 25-50 mg of dyphenhydramine at a time, which is the recommended dosage. I have tried to not take them but I can’t sleep, and I’m sure it’s a mind thing now as well as the fact they actually work. But really, how bad would it be if took them everyday? Would it hurt my liver (or kidneys, I can’t remember which one is for meds) any more than birth control or any other meds that we take an a daily or near daily basis?
