Ever since summer started, I haven’t been able to go to sleep till around 5-8am. I know, it’s a ridiculously early time to fall asleep, but my body will not rest. I end up waking up around 1pm or 3pm at the latest, and since I’m being homeschooled this year, it’s not really a problem of when I wake up so there’s no reason for me to really fix my sleep schedule.

However, I have noticed that my eyes are starting to look really sunken in and my hands sometimes shake when I’m just relaxing. (ex: watching a movie, laying down, watching tv, reading, etc.) I keep getting muscle cramps in my chest and I feel very disoriented. I know I’ve been acting out as well, but I thought it was just the birth control making me a little more sensitive to emotions. Any way, I keep feeling like I’m going to have a panic attack, and although it’s not completely out of the ordinary for me to have them, they seem to be coming a lot more frequently and I’m feeling anxious constantly.

Is it the sleeping patterns, or something else like stress?
If it is the sleeping problems, I have no idea how to fix it. I’m pretty sure I’m an insomniac because I always seem to have troubles falling asleep, especially if I am alone in my bed.

Any suggestions?

I’m an insomniac, and I just can’t get to sleep. It’ll take me three hours to get to sleep no matter how tired I am. Then I have to wake up at 6:30….I’ve tried all the ‘lifestyle changes’ people suggest. The only thing that works is sleeping pills. They’re over the counter, equate. I just need to know how many times a week I can take them without becomming dependant on them.

I am an insomniac. It takes me an hour, minimum, to get to sleep. Usually, it’s more. On a bad night, I never actually feel like I fall asleep at all – I remain in a half-awake mode, tossing and turning. Typically though, it takes me around two hours to fall asleep. Once I am asleep I don’t wake up – but curiously, I never seem to remember dreaming at all. This is probably because my REM cycles are disturbed by getting less sleep, and therefore having less opportunity to dream.

I have tried a lot of things to help me fall asleep faster. I have tried the muscle tensing technique, meditation, visualization of a single object, reading before bed, drinking warm milk before bed, trying relaxing activities before bed. I don’t read in my bedroom – my bed is exclusively for sleeping, as I have read that when you do other things during the daytime in your bedroom, it creates negative connections. When I get regular exercise during the day, it helps a little, but my insomnia is so bad that the difference it makes is negligible. I rarely go to sleep before 12, and during the school year, I have to get up at 6 every day.
There are several reasons why I want to reduce my insomnia. Obviously, more sleep creates better alertness during the day, and I hate being in that loopy sleep-deprived mode all the time. I want to be able to start dreaming again. Point is, I am so frustrated with my insomnia that I don’t know what to do. Should I go to a sleep lab and be interred there for a night, or what? Are there other methods that are more effective for worse cases of insomnia? This isn’t a nuisance – I have been a bad insomniac for 2 years straight. Until now, I’ve been just trying to live with it, but I’ve run out of options. What should I do? I am hesitant to take pills, because I know of their addictive nature, and I know that they create dependency. But will I have to, in the end? Please help this sleep-deprived soul!

I was a former insomniac but now have to fight to keep my head up, eyes open where ever I sit.
It’s really interfering with my school work.
I have been on it for over 6 months now, already tried other drugs and doses, do sleep enough at night, exercise daily, and eat relatively healthy.

Sleep Disorder problems.?

So I know I’m young but I was diagnosed as an insomniac because of a panic disorder, a couple of months ago. My doc was apprehensive to give me a prescription that would change my personality but turns out he did it anyway. First I was on Trazadone which was first medically introduced as an anti-depressant. But that caused a big drop in my blood pressure and caused a constant upset stomach. Then I was on Ambien CR which makes me have massive headaches, feel terrible in the mornings, and become irritable and cranky. I need a new prescription and advice from someone who has a had sleep disorder. I have a feeling the doctor might give me something useless again. help me…

What are the signs of being addicted to Ambien?

My doctor prescribed me the generic version of Ambien and I was wondering what the signs of being addicted are. I’ve been taking sleeping pills for a while, and I just recently switched to Ambien. I know it can be incredibly addictive. I’m an insomniac so I can’t sleep all the way through the night without a medication. (A less heard about version of insomnia.) I was wondering what the warning signs of being addicted to Ambien would be? Thank you in advance.

Insomnia advise please?

I’m a chronic insomniac and have been working with my DR. on the problem for the past 8 years. Any ideas on what can help. Here’s what hasn’t. Gave up caffine, bedroom used for sleeping only (no tv), regular exercise, routine bedtime rituals, not eating after a certain hour, hot bath 90 min before bed time. Making my bed the most comfortable place I know. Hypnosis (cured my smoking habit so I thought I’d try). Fan on in bedroom to drown out noises that could wake me up when I do fall asleep, aroma therapy, calming music, and reading books. OTC’s like including tylonol pm, and Nyquil. (works for a coupled days then doesn’t) RX such as Lunesta, Ambien and Rozerem (to mention a few) all with no results. The only thing that gives relief at all is Xanex, but it’s controlled and after 5 years on it, my tolerance is very high and it’s not working well anymore. Any suggestions? I need to get some sleep! Thanks
**oh, and I forgot to mention all the herbal products I tried. Please help.
I asked the dr about a sleep study, but she says it’s not sleep apnea, so it wouldn’t help. I asked for other benzos and she says I’ll have the same tolerance. I’m on both an antidepressant and an antihistamine, neither of which helped. Some great answers though. As for the pot, if it could be prescribed I absolutely would try, but at this time, it’d cost me my career. We have manditory testing at my job. Oh yeah, I’ve done the graveyard shift too. Same issue only worse. I know it seems I have an answer for almost anything, but keep trying please. 8 years is far too many and I’m fed up. Thanks so much!!
