My doctor diagnosed me with insomina on Friday and gave me a few samples of Lunesta (2 mg) to try. I’ve been taking a pill every night 20-30 minutes before bed time, but they don’t seem to work. I do not get sleepy at all, still lay there for an hour before falling asleep, wake up several times during the night, and get up before i’m supposed to, plus i’m still extremely groggy during the day.
i was just wondering if anyone else had tried Lunesta and had the same problems with it not seeming to work..if so, what step did you take next? did you try anohther sleeping medication? my doctor said i could go on a higher dosage, i was just surprised that 2 mg/night didn’t seem to have any effect whatsoever..

Not reaching your sleep rem could be because your sleep is getting interrupted, possibly due to a couple of reasons. If this is a serious and consistent problem, you need to find out how to have a sleep study done. It may be as easy as going to your doctor and having one prescribed for you.
Do you have a comfortable bed? Is it too hard or too soft? Does your pillow allow for your neck to be in a good position? Are you under a lot of anxiety, stress or worry? You may need a sleep study with anxiety to discover the underlying causes of sleep deprivation or not getting rem sleep.
If you are tossing and turning it could be due to some of the above mentioned reasons. You also may not be getting rem sleep if you have sleep apnea. That is more common than you think and it does not just affect older people, although it tends to affect people often when they get older.
Try to make sure you keep to a good sleep schedule. In other words, see if you can start to go to bed at exactly the same time of night for a period of a week to 10 days. Go to bed by 11:00 at night and get up at 8:00 and do not stay in bed for more than 8 hours, even if you are a little tired when getting up.
