Sleep Disorder?




I’m a 17 year old girl and in the past I would usually go to bed around anywhere from 12:30-1:30 and wake up around 6:40… so that’s about 5-6 hours of sleep and I’d be fine. But ever since September for some reason I’ve been getting the same amount of sleep and I fall asleep everywhere. I know I’m not narcoleptic but I will be sitting in the front of my class and fall asleep right in front of my teacher, it’s shocking to even me! I know I don’t get nearly as much sleep as I need for a teenager but I’ve been fine in the past! Does anyone know of a stress related sleep disorder? I think the increase in amount of school work and college applications has something to do with it!

I’ve heard that kids need around 7-8 hours of sleep, and that there is a period during those sleeping hours that is most effective in their growth spurt and when their height grows the most per se. What hours are most effective when it comes to growth in height for children? Any source provided will be much appreciated since it would be more reliable than a guess. How do I get better sleep?




I’ve always been nightowl. So I can stay awake for hours at night with no problem. Unfortunately, even if I’ve woken up really early earlier in the day I can’t seem to go to sleep at night. Normally once I hit my bed I’m out like a light. But the trouble isn’t falling alseep, when I’m there I have no problem with that. The trouble is getting into bed. I’m always up doing other things I think I need to take care of. Therefor I totally ruin any rest I need and I feel lousy every morning. And I’ve never been a morning person, even with proper sleep.
Even though I may have gotten only four hours of sleep the previous night I’ll be exhausted in the morning. But once the morning passes I’m energized the rest of the day until really late at night. You would think being up so long and busy all day would tire me out. And I’m not a big pop drinker or anything like that. So I know caffene is not the issue either.
I think I know what the problem is. My work schedule. Some days I have be up at 4am and others I don’t get done until 2am. Thankfully that doesn’t happen back to back. But it is just enough to ruin my sleep schedule. So as much as I’d love to get on a regular schedule. That will never happen. I guess I answered my own question. I love my career to much to change that. Unfortunately there’s nothing I can do about it.

I am a 20 year old female and I’ve noticed that my hands, especially my right hand shakes a lot. Even right now, when I lift my hand just about a centimeter off the keyboard, my right hand shakes a lot and the left hand shakes a little bit. My hand shakes when I do things like writing, eating, typing, etc. Also, I have a problem getting a lot of sleep, it is as if I have an alarm clock where I can only sleep about 5 hours even if I am tired. If I go to sleep at 12, I will wake up at 5, but if I go to sleep at 10, I will wake up a few times at the middle of the night, and when I calculate the total hours of sleep I had, it is usually about 5 hours also. It wouldn’t be much of a problem if I wasn’t sleepy during the daytime after sleeping for five hours but I am veeery sleepy during the daytime and it is a problem since I have a job. Also, when I am talking about something I do not feel comfortable talking about, the area under my left eye twitches. Is there something wrong with me?
Mmmhh…no, I have not lost weight, well I’ve been underweight since I was little…but thank you very much for the quick reply, and I will look into insomnia. :) ok, this is not a detail but I don’t know how to write replies to answers so I will just post it here. Thank you very much for all your quick comments, I will be sure to go to a doctor soon! I knew I should probably go visit the doctor but I wanted to get some ideas of what could be wrong with me first so I could be more informed.

How to fall asleep faster?




any tips on ways for me to fall asleep better/faster? i’ll be tired w/ only five hours of sleep from the previous night and i can’t go to sleep until i go to bed around eleven or so. and i have to wake up at around 5:45 for school. please & thanks :)

What can I do about my snoring room mate?




My room mate snores incredibly loud. The snoring usually comes in two bouts. One at midnight if he is asleep then, and one at 4 in the morning and it continues until he wakes up. On average I get 4-5 hours of sleep a night. He is very defensive and angry. When I confronted him about it before he told me to shut the f*ck up about it and he will turn it around saying I am just a p*ssy for not ignoring it and that I go to sleep too early. I talked to my RA about it and basically I am stuck with him unless a miracle happens. I need some kind of effective strategy to wake him up when it starts so i can get back to sleep without him knowing it was me. This is what I have been doing and when I can wake him up it works if only temporarily but the key is that he cannot know it was me. Has anyone else had an experience like this? My social life, my grades, and my demeanor have changed. The school is not letting me switch. I need some support and ideas to change this situation.

Either way, I still get about 6-8 hours of sleep a night. I used to go to bed very late then sleep in pretty late. But lately, I’ve been going to bed earlier and getting up earlier and it feels better and I’m feeling fresher that way. I still get the same amount of sleep either way but why does it feel better to go to bed earlier and get up earlier?

I have a long list of completely stupid fears when it comes to sleep. I’m afraid of not sleeping under a comforter no matter how hot it is. I need a bright light on, otherwise I go insane with fear. I can’t sleep without piles of junk around me on the bed, which causes huge discomfort. I’m scared to turn my fan on above a "low" for reasons unknown even to me. I also have a rather serious case of insomnia that occurs every night. Melatonin pills don’t work and my mother flat out refuses to get me sleep pills, not beliving I have a serious problem even though I only get 4 to 6 hours of sleep a night. I need help.

In about 7 hours of sleep I wake up atleast 5 times. Usually during a dream because I remember them all. Is this racing thoughts or some other kind of mental illness disorder or a sleep disorder of some kind, or both or somthing else? Thanks for the help.

How do I get rid of my snoring while I sleep?




I’ve never really snored while I slept on a regular basis, but now I’m snoring every night and that’s not usual for me. Sometimes I snore when I’m really tired. I’ve been going to bed at maybe twelve o’clock in the morning and getting up at nine to get my nine hours of sleep every night, but if I go to bed at ten and wake up at seven will I stop snoring?

Better sleep in the day, AFTER exercising?




I have been having a lot of trouble getting good sleep lately and having been making up more tired than ever even after getting at least 8 hours of sleep. However today, i ran with my friend at 6:30am, came home and showered then got the best sleep ive gotten in months in only 2 hours and woke up refreshed and ready to go. Why is this? What can I do to get better sleep like this all the time, preferebly in the night time at regular sleep hours??

How do I start sleeping early?




I have to start working early really soon, I have to wake up at 5am M-F. I need tips on how to change my sleeping habit ASAP. I’m not really a morning person, I usually sleep around 2-3am and I need 7-8 hours of sleep to function, I would like to start sleeping around 10pm. I am thinking about taking over-the-counter sleeping pills as a last resort, let me know if this is a good or bad idea. Thanks!

How can I get a better sleep quality?




I’m 15, and get about 8 hours of sleep each night. My mattress is a peice of crap, it should have been thrown away about 5 years ago, so I usually sleep on the floor.

I’m really bad at taking tests, my grades are good(5 A’s, 2 B’s, taking honors classes too :D), but my tests could be better.

So after analyzing my self and thinking what is holding me back from doing excellent on tests, I found out that it is from:
1. Lack of Concetration during a lecture.
2. Sleepyness in Class
3. Procrastination at home

So how can I help these three things get better?

How can I concentrate more?

How can I not be sleepy, besides from getting 8 hours of sleep?

How do I help my procrastination problems at home?

These are all related because since I procrastinate and stay up late doing homework, I don’t get enough sleep, now since I’m sleepy, I always lose concentration during a lecture during class. Now since I lost concentration, I don’t get the material, which thus causes me to do not so great on tests.
