For years now, I’ve had a problem sleeping. Most nights I only get about six hours sleep (on a good night) with my usual average being maybe three or four.

I’ve been to doctors, only to be prescribed medication that nearly killed me (no exaggeration there) and then when they found out I was allergic to it, I found out that there was nothing else I could take.

So as I sit up this early April First…I find myself asking a stupid question.

What’s the easiest way, without medication, to cure my insomnia and help me sleep? I need the deep sleep, the restful sleep. Something I’ve not had in…well years.

hopeless fore curing insomnia?




I’ve had insomnia for 5-6 years. It’s gotten worse and worse. Some nights I sleep for an hour. Some nights I never get into a deep sleep at all. Once in a while i’ll get a good 7 hours of sleep but thats pretty rare. I had a sleep study, but I actually fell asleep pretty fast that night (very rare) so I don’t think they saw how it usually is for me at night. I’ve been to so many doctors but they all proscribe the same meds that don’t work or give me a set of things to do to have better sleep hygiene (which I’ve tried several times and it never worked). It’s really effected my life. I’m in a bad mood a lot of the time and don’t have to many friends because I’d imagine I’m not the happiest person to be around. I also totaled my car from driving while exhausted and not paying full attention to the road. Can anything ever be done for me or will I just have to live with this?

Natural fixes please, no doctors and pills :)
I dont eat right before bed, I only drink water around bedtime.. I dont usually wake up in the night… Thats all :3

Sleep Disorder answers needed?




Today my father was diagnosed with a sleep disorder which has infected or affected his right eye which the doctors told him to take three different eye drops or he may need surgery to avoid being completely blinded in his right eye. I’m just asking that if you, a relative, or a friend that has been diagnosed with this to give me a little help on it or any information about it and if there is something that I can do to help him.
I’m not completely sure but that’s what my father said the doctor told him. My father has memory problems so it wouldn’t be off if his eye has nothing to do with it.

any body feel free to chime in on bi-polar, manic-depressive, depression, suicidal thoughts! Hell, you know all that fun stuff you go through when the "doctors" are (trying) to diagnose why you are an able to focus on pleasant thoughts, block out those negative thoughts, hell just for a couple of hours a a day every other day or two just to have something, like hope, happiness, just a damn day without fear.

okay, my boyfriend has this problem, if he goes to sleep when he’s upset or in a really sad mood, within the hour, he will have a bad dream in which he cuts himself, and he’ll cut himself in real life too. so while sleeping, he’s cut his wrists, and even his waist.
normally he wakes up once he’s cut himself, but the last time it happened, on the waist, he didnt even wake up.
he’s had issues with self harm before (conciously), and though he’s only done it (on his wrists) 3 or 4 times, he’s told me that it still often comes to mind when he’s upset.
he doesnt want to tell his parents about it (he’s 15), and believe me, i know he should, but thats not the answer i need.
i would like to know, if this is in fact a sleep disorder, what one it is specifically, and what can be done (home remedies and or medication) to treat it.

please help, thank you
he is going to ask about it when he goes to get his sports physical at the doctors, but thats next month
okay, and please dont tell me he needs to see a doctor. i know that. i want to know more just what it might be thats causing this, what its called, information about it, etc..

Is this a sleep disorder?




Ill try to explain it the best i can, and thanks ahead of time if you shed some light on this. At the moment i cant afford a doctors visit so this will have to do.

My current sleeping schedule is whenever i wake up to 5am. No matter how early i wake up or how much little sleep i get, i always dont feel tired till 5am. It gets later and later as days go on (started at around 2am). Its been like this for months. I miss the days were i can wake up at 8am and eat breakfast with my wife.

So for example, if i only get like 5 hours of sleep, ill be really tired throughout the day till around 8-9pm then i wont even be tired anymore. This has been a problem. I wake up early and struggle to stay up during the day so when night time comes i can sleep but i always make it to 5am. Its always the same time i fell asleep lastnight (or a bit later by a few minutes).

Me and my wife think it may be just me having way to much energy left over so theirs no real reason to be tired. My usual routine is wake up, eat, work, relax and play comp games till i feel tired enough to sleep. It could be it… but then when i do feel tired, ill lay down and try to sleep for like an hour. I can never just lay down and sleep.. Even when i get comfortable, i notice that the tired sleepy feeling goes away and im pretty sure if i got out of bed i could stay up for another few hours.

Its insane, me and my wife had the same sleeping schedule till this happened.. i dont even know what caused it. Its so fustrating.. So what do you think? Sleep disorder? too much energy?

Im debating on sleeping pills.. usually they dont work on me but its been awhile so it may help. I just want to feel real sleepy around 10-12 so i can wake up like i used to. All answers point to me working out alot, tried it.. and it has failed, still manage to stay up.

I have a sleeping disorder, but it hasn’t technically been diagnosed.

I have the symptoms of Narcolepsy, but it can’t be diagnosed as that because of my sleep pattern. To put it all in a nutshell, I am always sleepy. It doesn’t matter how much sleep I get, I am still sleepy. I have slept for 12 hours straight, and still woke up sleepy. It’s definately a sleep disorder because I have had every test under the sun ran on me, and everything is fine (blood, iron, sugar, etc…)

I read something on the internet about a disorder called Hypersomnia, and it describes me perfectly, but doctors are still researching it, so they can’t diagnose it yet.

I have been on several medications, and nothing helps.

Do any of you suffer from any kind of sleep disorder? If so, has there been any treatment that has worked for you? I am so tired of feeling like this. It has ruined my life because I don’t have the energy to do anything, and frustrating because I can’t get diagnosed/cured
I am taking Provigil now, but it seems like my body becomes immune to it.

It helps for the first few weeks, then it doesn’t have any effect at all. My doctor raised the dosage, but still, no luck.

I want to know about long term effects besides dependency. I want a serious answer, not the ones so many people like to give to make you feel incredibly dumb.

My problem is, I have trouble sleeping so I take sleeping pills on a very regular basis, OTC ones not prescription. And my tolerance to them is so high, I have to take between 8-12 of them. I want to know if there are any serious long term side effect, for example kidney failure, heart problems, and so on. I would ask a doctor but I’m a sever hypochondriac, and I hate going to doctors.

do i have a sleep disorder? help.?




i usually dont have any trouble falling asleep
at night.

but when i wake in the morning i feel
like i only got about 4 minutes of sleep.

i find that setting my alarm clock to go
off every 45 minutes during the night
seems to help me feel like i have slept
more.

would this be considered a sleep disorder?

i was just wondering if i should bring
this up at a doctors appt.

by the way im only 17.

Should I get a night stocking job?




It is New Year’s Eve and I’m at home drinking alone. I’ve never had a girlfriend, and I don’t have any real friends.

I graduated high school in the top of my class, but I have severe social anxiety that makes me very nervous around people.

I have a rare skin condition that causes me to develop hives when I sweat. I have seen many doctors and been diagnosed with cholinergic urticaria. There is no cure, but Benadryls provide me a few hours relief.

I used to pass my time playing online games. My family moved, and at my new house I do not have a good internet connection. Now I have nothing to do.

I have insomnia. When I go to bed at 4 am, I do not fall asleep until 6 am, even after downing a couple Benadryls.

I need something to do. I don’t care how much I get paid. I only spend money on gas, Benadryl and cigarettes. I’d like an apartment some day but I still live with my parents.

I considered getting a cashier position, but I think the stress and physical trembling from talking to people all day would be too much for me.

Am I making a mistake by applying for a night stocking job?

What are some good ways to sleep better?




Can’t sleep very well lately. It takes me upwards of an hour to fall asleep after I’ve gotten into bed, and once I actually do fall asleep I’m often waking up. To add to that, my dreams are usually obscure and make my sleep generally uncomfortable. Anybody know any tips? Might I need to go to the doctors for a check-up?
I appreciate the answer, but I’d prefer natural tips. I’m one of those "don’t trust meds" people . . .

I’m fifteen years old and my friends tell me I sleep really weird.. I stop snoring for like 3 minutes then I start doing this whistling thing and this goes on all night long. I have super bad sinuses so could it be sleep apnea? What can doctors do if it is sleep apnea?
Oh, and after three minutes, I gasp for air they say. My family even notices.

sleeping..?




i just had major back surgrey and was on alot of medicane. I’ve been off for about 2 weeks and cannot sleep at all! I went to the doctors last monday and they gave me a sleeping pill [being only 16 im sure it wasn't that strong]–but needless to say it still doesn’t work! i’ve tried everything-exersize before bed, warm milk, hot bath, no naps. EVZERYTHING.. any ideas? i’m so warn out and lost.
