How long do caffeine withdrawal spells last?

Once, caffeine didn’t seem to do much to me. But then a couple of years ago I began drinking lots of coffee. Like think starbucks mocha frap, and over the summer i sometimes had 2-3 of those a day. I went cold turkey, and had these horrible headaches. But I’ve never felt the same since, like my head is never as clear as it once was. Are these permanant effects of caffeine? What about if I have a little caffeine, will my previous addiction cause me to be addicted again?

Is there an average? Does caffeine lose its strength the longer coffee sits in the cup?

How dangerous is a severe caffeine addiction?

I have been drinking the equivalent of eight, sometimes nine cups a day (also in the form of espresso and No Doz) because I am a college student and cannot make it through my studies without a stimulant. I have had horrible insomnia all of my life (without the influence of any caffeine or drugs) and started drinking coffee in college because I can’t academically afford to always be exhausted and have no energy. But now it is backfiring…
Are there any serious health effects of my addiction, besides the obvious crashes?
Also, this has been going on for a couple of months.

I drive a little over an hour one way to work a few times a week. While on the road I become sleepy after about 20 to 30 minutes. I get plenty of sleep, and even take coffee with me, but somehow, driving puts me to sleep. Any ideas? What’s causing it, what can I do?
It’s gotten so bad that I have had to pull off the road and take a 15-20 minute nap.

I’ve been drinking about 5 eight ounce cups of coffee a day. And to be honest, I don’t feel any of the effects of caffeine at all. I don’t noticeably gain any energy after a cup, or feel jittery. I’ve heard about caffeine causing lumps in the chest tissue, though. Which I haven’t had yet. But are there any other effects of caffeine that may affect me in the future? And how much coffee do you consider too much coffee?

I called the companies and the large sized iced or sweet tea at Mcdonalds has 100 mg of caffeine, which is about the same as two and a half cups of coffee, while the small size has 38 mg of caffeine, about the same as a cup of regular coffee (beware kids!). Dunkin Donuts is worse; the large iced tea has 110 mg or caffeine. No wonder they make me feel so peppy!

I’m allergic to coffee and chocolate. Aside from sodas, what has large amounts of caffeine but doesn’t contain a lot of sugar. Are there caffeine pills or something that are pure caffeine?

I was discussing this with my co-worker. I told him decaffeinated tea leaves are plucked early in order for it to have less caffeine, so maybe in the case of coffee maybe the beans are picked early. Does anyone know the answer?

What is a safe and healthy caffeine pill?

I’m wanting to start taking a caffeine pill because I’m always so tired! I don’t drink soda or coffee so I’m just wondering about a caffeine pill that is safe. Any ideas or brands that I should buy or what I should know before taking? Thanks!

Recently, I have had some stomach problems (loosely diagnosed as gastritis) and have been taking medication and eating a strict diet for almost a month. No matter what I eat, I always feel like my stomach is "unsettled" with the food inside and sometimes it plain hurts (like it’s being squeezed or sometimes, being stabbed). Haven’t had much improvement and even more recently, I’ve been unable to get to sleep. Usually I stay awake until 4-5am. I’m dead tired but I can’t fall asleep and I am always restless and sometimes, emotional for no apparent reason.

– I drink socially but not much at all anymore because of my stomach.
– I don’t drink soda or coffee or eat anything sugary.
– Only eat dinner and that usually consists of something very simple and plain.
– I get simple exercise with walking.
– I have stress at my work but it apparently is not related (stomach never hurts at work and I’ve been stressed out at work long before I started losing sleep)

I have always had some kind of stomach issue but it has always been passed off (probably because I am younger) and I have always had some kind of sleeping problem (since I can remember). It’s only recently that they got more serious (although, I have taken medication for both in the past).

Come on doctors / students / smart people. I’d like a differential to "generic stomach problem and stress".
I have tried everything I thought was possible by myself at home. I don’t drink milk or coffee at all anymore and I hardly eat anything other than rice recently (part of my strict diet).

I have been to the doctor several times and they just give me a simple but uneffective treatment and diagnose me with some generic stomach problem. I’m a 21 year old male so I don’t get taken seriously with doctors usually.

That’s why I’ve taken initiative and tried everything I can at home but nothing seems to be working.

I think I can go back to the doctor with some new information though, thank you.
