This is a very weird and bad case of insomnia. My problem isn’t getting to sleep, and it never has been. But for some reason, I’m only sleeping 4 hours now.. its been happening for over two weeks. No matter what home remedy I try, after EXACTLY four hours (It’s very spooky how exact this is, folks…) I will wake up, feeling wide awake and physically impossible to fall back asleep.
What is going on in that brain of mine? Am I skipping out on one of sleep’s stages, or are all my stages of sleep being condensed itno a "micro session", I do crash hard so I know the 4 hours a night is not enough, but what the hell is wrong with me?
When I wake up, my mouth is completly dry and I have a very strong need to urinate. Even though I don’t drink anything before bed. I’ve been thinking.. possibly diabetes, I hope not, but at this point, just figuring out the cause of this would be a relief anyway. BTW, I have seen a doctor for this, and got Lunesta, and it didn’t work

every so often while i am sleeping i jerk awake.
when i say jerk awake i mean really jerk. from a dead sleep i will snap up, mostly my head, like im startled. i will go from being sound asleep to completely awake. this happens like a reflex, my body doesnt come up much, its not like im getting up, my head snaps and turns like someone has come up and grabbed my shoulder and startled me. this happens so suddenly that i get whiplash from it. theres also a kind of sound inside my head like a "kink", i guess where my brain is getting jolted so hard and also a flash of light inside my head. anyone ever had this happen or have this diagnosed.
every once in a while i will take a quick breath in between breathes while i am awake, again, something i couldnt duplicate if i wanted to, but a reflexive response. dont know if they are related.

‘ve had chronic insomnia since I was a baby. It went unnoticed until I was in jr. high and began taking a cold capsule at bedtime when I could not sleep and that helped back then. I was taken to many doctors as I grew up but they always told my mother there was nothing wrong with me and sent me home being scolding for faking illness. I wasn’t faking. I was a very sickly child, chronically fatigue, with little interest in the world and people around me. When I am able to sleep well for at least 8 hours I feel almost normal. But without medication, my brain does not shut down enough to sleep. I quickly develope a tolerance to medications, then the doses are increased which increases the severity or their side effects. I was born a type A Personality and it kills me to sit home when I want to be working. But without a long term relief from my insomnia I cannot work . I need to find a new sleep aid that doesn’t cause me to sleep walk. I’ve already tried all the natural remedies

Dr suggested taking melatonin to help sleep however 1 tablet doesn’t help. So that leads to my question. I can’t shut my brain off and I don’t know what else to do. Counseling is not an option as my husband is out of work so money is tight.

when i sleep sometimes i it feels like my brain wakes up but my body dosent and i am aware of whats going on but i cant move the only thing i can do is control my breathing which usually becomes rapid because i will start to panic trying to wake myself up this usually lasts for 30 seconds to about 2 minutes its a horrible feeling when it happens. This has been occuring less as i get older, im 30 and in otherwise good heath, but it started when i was17 and it was almost every night several times and then it was accompanied by a severe intense ringing in my ears (that part has not happened in years) but i dreaded falling asleep. The closeset thing ive come up with researching is sleep paralysis which isnt 100% what i think i have. I just wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this or am i crazy

What does it mean that I havent had dreams in over a year? I’m looking for a solid answer, not exhaustion or stress. I know that dreams are essential for the brain to recharge, so why havent I had any?

The sleep I do get is of poor quality. Someone once suggested I take Melatonin at bedtime to improve the restfulness of my brain. Anyone heard of this or tried it?

I have a hard time getting to sleep early. I need to be asleep by 11 pm but last night when I went to bed at 111 I was up until about am. I have tried over and over to sleep early but I always seem to finally fall asleep between 11 and 1 am no matter how early I go to bed. How I reprogram my brain to be able to fall asleep early?
I think this is a genetic problem because my father has a hard time going to sleep early as well. And I know its not insomnia be cause whence its time I can fall asleep but it’s changing the time to a earlier time.

I’ve heard of people who deprive themselves of sleep for 7 days in order to have psychedelic experiences similar to using drugs. Is that actually a safe thing to do?
In the Wikipedia article on sleep deprivation, it says one of the effects is getting a hernia. *shudder* I was actually considering doing that sometime before I read that.
If I did, would I be fine after sleeping for a few days after the fact? Or would I be causing irreversable damage to my brain/body?

Does anyone know if the language centers of the brain are used during sleep, and if so do you have links to references on this such as results from fMRI, EEG, PET scans? Please only respond if you have references to the aforementioned testing.

I heard that any addiction can cause the brain to release chemicals like dopamine and endorphins, so can going cold turkey cause mild withdrawals like strange dreams, insomnia, restlessness.. etc

Though there is no definitive proof either way, I believe the memory and logic centers of the brain shut off when we dream.
Otherwise there is no possible way things such as being able to fly; monsters; thoughts of dead people interreacting with us; etc could occur.
I’ve had dreams of being back in the 8th grade without realizing I am 25 years old and in Grad School.
I’ve had dreams of being able to fly without knowledge of how I attained the power or a realization that gravity doesn’t allow for it.
I’ve woken in the morning without being able to remember who I am, where I am, etc.
In my dreams I’ve done extremely illogical things:
killing without hesitation, incest, and worst of all, running in fear only to somehow run slower and slower with each step.
I feel the brain’s memory and logic centers shut down during sleep. Is there evidence otherwise?
