I took a sleep aid called Alteril, to try to relax for the day. i ended up taking some xanax along with it.. and when it came to bedtime at around 1 in the morning, i wasnt tired at all. so i took 2 benedryl and still was not tired.
Im feeling very insecure right now. i feel like ive harmed my body. please help me out

I’ve been taking a lot of Benedryl the last few weeks. I picked up a cold when leaving Jackson, WY a week and a half ago. And the climate changes across the US, from Wyoming all the way to my home in Georgia (vast difference in plant types and humidity) just aggravated my allergies even more. But I’ve been ridiculously hungry since then. I’m taking 2 capsules of Benedryl about 3x/day. I know it’s what’s making me hungry, but why? I have to control these allergies but I can’t keep eating and gaining weight like this! Help!

Im hoping someone can give me some good advice. I have a horrible time trying to sleep every night. I used to take Lexapro because I have serious anxiety issues (PTSD). I began taking the medication simply because I couldn’t sleep. I had to stop taking the Lexapro b/c my husband and I are trying to have a baby, and it needs to be out of my system. I was doing okay for many months off the medication, but recently, I started taking fertility drugs and those have increased my anxiety (the dr. says it’s because of the rise in hormone levels). Anyway…when I try to sleep at night, I have these horrible anxiety problems. It’s almost like that feeling you get when you know you’re in trouble. (Heart beats really fast, and I get that weird burning feeling in my chest, neck and face–ya know what I mean?) Sometimes I can take a Valium and sleep okay, but Im afraid of not being able to sleep without those if we get pregnant. Anyone have any good drug-free alternatives?
I might try the music…I can’t take any diphenhidramine (sp?) which includes over the counter sleep aids and benedryl. (Doc’s orders…they actually make sleeping worse).
Sigh…no melatonin allowed, either, while trying to concieve. Thanks for your suggestions tho!!
If I take a nondrowsy antihistamine like Claritin it does nothing for me. If I take a regular antihistamine like Benedryl it stops my allergy symptoms, but knocks me out. Does anyone else have this problem?
I feel as if my whole body has been itching since yesterday morning. It’s strange. My legs itch more than the rest. The itching is off & on and I have a compulsion to keep moving my legs when I’m sitting down or laying in bed. It feels like something is under my skin and there are red marks in some places. Some of the marks almost look like insect bites. Do you think this is allergies? I feel strange crawling and prickling sensations along with the need to scratch. Anti-histamines have not helped much.
I phoned the after-hours nurse line because nothing at home seemed to work and my symptoms were getting worse. The nurse said it sounded like I have a bad systemic reaction, so go to the ER or a minor emergency clinic.
I went to the minor emergency clinic because it’s cheaper. I walked out 5 minutes later with instructions to take Benedryl and a referral to a dermatologist. Did I not just tell the doctor that I’m already taking anti-histamines and they aren’t helping? In any case, I was hoping on finding some relief at the clinic.
My questions: Would you think I’m experiencing an allergic reaction or something else? Also, any suggestions to get some sleep given the itching or am I screwed until this passes? As I was leaving the clinic the intake nurse commented that I was a hypochondriac. Was she implying that my symptoms aren’t real? Thanks for reading & for any feedback.
I know it’s impossible to guess a diagnosis. I’m thinking it’s either hives or a skin condition such as eczema.
I’m hoping this disappears if I use an anti-histamine everyday for a while and can resist the urge to move and scratch.
I do take Lexapro and Ritalin, as prescribed. No pain killers. I did tell the nurses and doctor that I’m taking them. Maybe I’m on a stimulant high but just don’t know it. I’m open to suggestions.
Of course I won’t get a real answer until I talk to my PCP or a specialist. There’s lots of possible causes. I probably will not be seeing a dermatologist because I don’t have health insurance right now. I’m going to try hard to ignore whatever is happening.

I have been having sleeping problems for a few weeks. I have been using melatonin but it has not seemed to be working yet, although I have even increased the dosage. About an hour ago I took three 300mcg pills of melatonin, yet I am still not feeling any effects from it. I was thinking about taking some Benedryl to see if that would help make me drowsy. Would there be anything harmful about doing this?
