‘ve had chronic insomnia since I was a baby. It went unnoticed until I was in jr. high and began taking a cold capsule at bedtime when I could not sleep and that helped back then. I was taken to many doctors as I grew up but they always told my mother there was nothing wrong with me and sent me home being scolding for faking illness. I wasn’t faking. I was a very sickly child, chronically fatigue, with little interest in the world and people around me. When I am able to sleep well for at least 8 hours I feel almost normal. But without medication, my brain does not shut down enough to sleep. I quickly develope a tolerance to medications, then the doses are increased which increases the severity or their side effects. I was born a type A Personality and it kills me to sit home when I want to be working. But without a long term relief from my insomnia I cannot work . I need to find a new sleep aid that doesn’t cause me to sleep walk. I’ve already tried all the natural remedies

I’m 13 years old. It’s summer break and I need to get on a healthy
sleeping habit. 12:00 AM is my bedtime. About 1-3:00 PM is my awakening time. I don’t have an alarm clock. My little cousin calls every morning to try to wake me. It doesn’t work. PLEASE HELP!

My sons councler recommend trying melatonin at bedtime to see if that helps him sleep because he hasn’t ever slept through the night and has short REM cycles. Has anyone ever heard of this and/or tried it? I gave it to him 2 nights now but he also has a cold right now so I don’t know if that is also affecting the sleep so the pill isn’t helping or if he just needs to be on it for a certain amount of time before it can start to work. My 3 year old also doesn’t sleep through the night so I was going to ask about him taking it as well if it works for the 5 year old. BTW my mom, myself and even my grandma (my moms mom) don’t sleep well either, never have with really short REM cycles.

There’s nothing on the bottle, other than take it at bedtime. CVS brand if that helps.
Yes, I didn’t know it is supposed to have some long-term effect, I just thought it was to help you get to sleep for one night. And I meant pills that you swallow, not under-the-tongue.
Surprised to hear 5-6 mg doses. It used to be 1mg, and I thought the 3mg we get now is overdoing it.
I should have googled it - here’s a more complete answer: http://www.talkaboutsleep.com/circadian-rhythm-disorders/circadian-rhythm-sleep-disorders/10-how-to-use-melatonin-correctly.htm

The sleep I do get is of poor quality. Someone once suggested I take Melatonin at bedtime to improve the restfulness of my brain. Anyone heard of this or tried it?

I regularly lay down and think, at my bedtime.
Before I know it, a few minutes have gone by, and then a couple of hours, and I haven’t "slept" a wink.
I had problems with this in the past, as a teenager, I had a prescription, but all that did was "help me get tired" which wasn’t the problem, because I was already tired (from not getting enough sleep, of course). The problem was actually falling asleep.
Once I’m out, it’s no problem. I sleep very deeply when I finally drift off.
Just wondering if there are any methods that are good for "drifting off" a little bit faster.

My baby seems to sleep okay once she gets to sleep, it is just getting there that is the problem. She just cries and cries and fights going to sleep mostly at bedtime. She is only 2 months old but she sleeps pretty good during the day and goes to sleep pretty easy. Is there any herbs or drops for this problem? Any suggestions would be appriciated. Thanks!

My daughter is 10 weeks old and she usually sleeps through from around 12 until 7/8am.
When will she sleep straight through from as early as her bedtime, say 7pm until 7am?
Is her 8 hours sleeping she is doing at the moment a good start?
I want to start putting her to bed at 7 so she gets into a routine, but I think she’ll wake up in the middle of the night when I do that.

The sleep aid is Melatonin, and the instructions just say, "Take 1 dropper a day at bedtime only". Does that mean to just put it on my tongue or mix it in something?
Thank you for helping!
Selene A, what the hell does that mean?

I can never fall asleep at night. Recently I have been going to bed at 7-8 am and getting up late in the day. I want to get back on a normal bedtime schedule, but no matter how hard i try i can’t fall asleep at night. I have always been like this. School is starting soon and I want to be able to get to bed earlier so I’m not miserable in the morning. Any suggestions?

Taking 1mg of Melatonin make me have worse insomnia than not taking it before bedtime. Why would it reverse?
I don’t drink coffee.

Some people say that reading a book makes them drowsy, thus leading to better sleep. Others say that the brain is very much active when a person is reading, therefore it isn’t the best thing to do before sleep, because it makes your mind alert. Which one is it? Also, what things could be done before bedtime to improve sleep, be able to fall asleep faster and have a deeper, restorative sleep?

My son learned to fall asleep on his own when he was about 5 months old. But we have moved twice since then. And now we are living with friends. His father is living somewere else because he can’t live here with us. A legal matter states that he can’t live here. So… Ever since his father moved out he has stopped falling asleep on his own. First it was just bedtime. It didn’t bother me so much. But then it turned into bedtime and both naptimes. I have tried to let him CIO. That’s how we got him to go to sleep on his own the first time around. But it’s not working this time. He screams so hard he ends up throwing up. And now I have to actually lay down with him every night to get him to go to sleep. And I have to hold him to get him to fall asleep for naptimes. I want him to fall asleep on his own again, but I have no idea what to try.
