Insomnia…help!?

I sprained my ankle a week and a half ago. I made an appointment to see a podiatrist, who couldn’t see me until today. All he did for me was give me an ace bandage and told me to exercise it. I told him my foot bothered me at night and it was hard to sleep. He sent me off saying take some ibuprofen and i’ll be fine. Well here I am on sleepless night 5. I’ve become an insomniac due to the pain and other stress. I’m moving in 2 days and also going on a big trip in a week. I can go see my general practioner tomorrow…would it be wrong to be forthright in telling my doctor that i absoultely need some type of drug to help me sleep.

How do I conquer premenopause symptoms?

I believe I am experiencing premenopause symptoms. I have scheduled an appointment with my gynecologist. But I wanted to see what other women were doing to combat these dreadful symptoms I that have begun to experience such as headaches, insomnia, tiredness, hot flashes, mood swings, and a decreased sex drive. Please help!

I’ve gone to a doctor before about tiredness and waking up tired – the last time I got a blood test done and everything was fine and the doctor didn’t do anything else. Since then I’ve moved house and have another doctor. I went to him and again he wants to start with a blood test. I’m pretty sure this will still be normal. He says that most patients leave it at that and don’t want further tests. I guess if I don’t have high blood pressure (which he tested) and my blood values are normal the chances are high that it’s stress causing the tiredness. Should a bother making another appointment with my GP and asking to go to a sleep center? (It seems like patients are discouraged to do this) Can I diagnose sleep apnea myself – for example by recording my own snoring and seeing if I stop breathing?

Thanks

What could be the source of my fatigue?

For the last 2 to 3 months I’ve been chronically tired. On occasion I’ve found myself sleeping in excess of 12 hours. Tests have ruled out Lyme disease and mono, but haven’t given an answer either. I eat relatively well. I don’t get as much exercise as I should, but I find when I do exercise an hour or so later I’m unable to stay awake.

I don’t have any chronic pain along with the fatigue. There’s not a chance I could be pregnant. I feel otherwise healthy, just tired all the time.

I have another appointment with a doctor next week. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I could ask her to look for this time?
I take birth control pills and cytalopram on a regular basis, but I’ve been on both of those for over a year. I wouldn’t be developing side effects to them now.

Hi, I’m 15 and have needed AT LEAST an hour every night to fall asleep for as long as I can remember. I have never been fully rested since I started having this problem who-knows-how-long ago. I really need help with it, though, because it is starting to really hurt me in school. Through my 9th grade year I found myself daydreaming more than I ever had before. Even before, like back to 5th grade, I never could focus easily in class and found myself taking a long time to push through my work. I am a solid A/B student and have been my whole life, but have also had trouble finishing something and not getting distracted. So, I told my mom about this because I thought that it was ADD or ADHD, but I tested negative for that. Anyways, the past few days, I’ve noticed I don’t fall asleep until 2 A.M. at the earliest and don’t wake up until 10 A.M. at the earliest. It just recently hit me that this could be insomnia when I started thinking of how this girl in my school is an insomniac. This insomnia is making it really hard to focus in school and it is also making me irritable and giving me terrible mood swings. I would blow up at people for trying to be nice and talking to me, or touching me by accident, or other ridiculous things like that. Because of this, I never do my homework when it is not graded and do it at the last minute when it is (or I should say did. I’m on break right now). I’m annoyed by nearly everything my parents or brothers do and also by really simple things that I know SHOULD NOT bother me at all, but they do. It takes me FOREVER to finish a cross stitch, no matter how small, just because I cannot concentrate on ANYTHING for a long time. Sorry if I repeated some things.

Anyways, I have an appointment with a pediatrician on July 7th for my degenerative TMJ, knee and hip joint pains, and also my acid reflux. She is supposed to be a really great diagnostician. Should I ask her about my insomnia?

Also, my mom sees no problem that it takes so long to fall asleep, but it is a big problem for me. How can I express that to her better?

Thanks for all the help and answers. I’m sorry this is so long.

I sleep really early, around 08:30 – 09:00pm and wake up around 7:15 – 7:30 am and am always sleepy and tired and my body is kinda weak comparing to how I am usually.
Is there any specific reason for that? I have scheduled an appointment with th Dr. and will do some blood tests, but meanwhile I need to know if it’s a common case.

Or does it mess things up? Like possibly make the heartbeat faster than it normally is? I am 16 weeks pregnant, and I have tried to cut caffeine out of my diet as much as possible. I have an ultrasound tomorrow, and was thinking about drinking some Mountain Dew before my appointment. What do you think?

I was only given 20, and I’m supposed to take one everynight before bed. It’s also only .25mg. I have been doing just that, and now I’m almost out. I was wondering if I could call the doctor and see if he could phone in a refill at the pharmacy since I have no refills? I have an appointment in 2 week but I may need the medication until then.

I just missed an appointment with my psychiatrist and can’t book another one for a month, and I can’t sleep well without ambien at all. I would even buy it from someone if I had to. Have you ever gotten it without a prescription? how do you do so?

I called the vet to make an appointment because her rash is getting worse. I told the vet tech that she had licked the topical benadryl and she didn’t seem concerned. I just read the label and it says to contact a poison control center if swallowed.

I have not been diagnosed, but it is apparent that I have it. Im 17 and I was wondering what type of medication I may be put on if I am diagnosed?

What can my doctor do for ambien addiction?

I want to get off of ambien and sleep aids all together, but when I try to do it myself, I get extremely sick and can’t stop shaking and vomiting. If I make an appointment with my doctor, what can he do for me? I dont feel that my problem is big enough for "rehab", but I definitely know that I need some sort of intervention.

Bipolar Disorder?

I need help! My wife of one year on 10/14 suffers from Bipolar Disorder. She also has a thyroid problem that is slowly returning to normal with medication from an Endocrinologist. Everything I read about Bipolar Disorder says that the thyroid has a lot to do with brain chemicals and hormones and affects depression greatly. She is going through a very bad bout of depression right now, and has even said that she doesn’t love me anymore. She is seeing a psychiatrist, and has an appointment with a psychologist Thursday night, so she is taking steps to make herself better, but as her thyroid improves, her depression worsens. Is this just the disorder telling her that she doesn’t love me? My family and I have never had to deal with anything like this before. I am trying to be strong and hang in there, because my love for her has not wavered, but I’m having a very hard time coping. Anyone with experience with this horrible disorder have any advice for me?
