I’ve been sleeping with the lights on (had anxiety issues for awhile) and am wondering if I could be reducing my melatonin levels by doing this.

I have been using ativan to fall asleep because anxiety keeps me awake. Is there another way without using a tranquilizer??? I have a one week old baby at home I can’t keep using this!

Can trazadone be used as a sleeping aid as needed?

I visited my doctor because I’ve been having trouble sleeping. He prescribed me trazadone to use as a sleep aid, and instructed me to take it when necessary for sleeping.

However, after doing some research, it seems as if trazadone is usually taken every day (to treat ailments such as anxiety, which I do not have). So, is my doctor misinformed, or can trazadone indeed be taken only when needed, strictly as a sleep aid?

What is your opinion of benzodiazepines?

You aren’t supposed to take them for more than 4 weeks at the longest.
K.E., psychological dependence to benzodiazepine develops after daily use for 4 weeks. As you know, these drugs have the potential to be addictive. They are not long-term solutions to anxiety. Antidepressants perform that function. These are not drugs you want to take everyday as you would an antidepressant.

Thanks for your input. Yes i see a therapist twice a week, and a physiologist once a month. I have a traumatic brain injury do to a motorcycle accident, so I also take abilify, lemictal, wellbutrin, and keppra for seizures. This happened about 5 years ago. My anxiety is off the roof most the time, that’s why so much xanax.

Im a 15 year old male and for a period of about of month my sleep patterns were screwed up due to anxiety and thinking. For some of the days I was laying in my bed with my eyes closed but I couldn’t fall asleep at all and I was aware. Other days I may have gotten only a few hours of sleep. Since then I’ve been doing better and I’ve been getting a full night’s sleep every day but now I keep worrying if the lack of sleep I went through may have permanantly affected my brain.

Since I transferred out of community college into a four year, I’ve had trouble adjusting to work amounts, competition, and grade deflation. I went from star student to C student in two semesters and have only recently gotten my grades up. More interestingly however, I’ve become more and more neurotic. I absolutely, positively, cannot fall asleep the night before exams, important meetings, presentations, dates with girls, big events, etc. Anything where I have some level of uncertainty of the outcome.

My study habits are worse, I am obsessive and concentrated to a T when I read chapters and study, but it takes me HOURS to finish studying what usually should take 1 hour or so. I take notes more than the textbook itself. When it comes to studying, I must have everything covered, or I will be worried through the roof for my grades. I usually end up not being able to studying all of the material for the test, because im so busy thoroughly studying the first half. What the hell is wrong with me… I could be doing so much better, but I’m wrecked by anxiety. I talk myself out of difficult things, I talk myself out of relationships, I talk myself out of opportunities, out of socializing, out of friends, all because I’m worried. Worst of it all is that I CANNOT SLEEP!!! I keep having to wake up to use the bathroom. What the hell is wrong with me!
Good call on the GAD. I am seeing a psychiatrist currently, and she’s given me an antidepressant/stimulant (Buproprion) for concentration and antidepressant effects, and she’s thinking about giving me an anxiolytic for anxiety. I don’t know… I have a big meeting tomorrow and I can’t fucking sleep.

Anyone have or know symptoms for insomnia?

I’m 21 and as long as I can remember i’ve had sleeping problems. My mom said at age 3-4 she would find me cleaning my room at 2 or 3am. I usually go to bed around 10, just after my daughter and lay awake for hours. In the morning i am extremely tired, then at 4 or 5pm i feel like i NEED to sleep. Lately i’ve had alot on my mind (flashbacks to being raped by my brother from age 7-11). In the last 5 years or so, i’ve tried sleeping pills, chamomile tea before bed, vigorous exercise during the day, nighttime yoga, breathing exercises, and i do not drink anything besides OJ, milk and water. Does anyone know what I could do besides going to my doc? I’m already on pills for my anxiety, but i feel this may be the cause of everything.

I’m a long term sufferer of depression and anxiety, and my condition hasn’t really responded well to medication (I am currently on fluoxetine). Lately, however, I’ve noticed I feel better whenever I have caffeine in my system (my anxiety has been cut in half). I don’t mind using caffeine as a short term solution, but I’m wondering about the long term effects on my body.

i have GAD anxiety and i take 8 10mg serax’s/oxazepam.doctor said i can cut down on my serax while drinking valerian root tea. please help?

i have Valerian root tea here and i have it but theres alot of the valerian root particles..am i supposed to consume it? helps my anxiety doctors says i can cut down on my benzo when drinking this.
