I read somewhere today, that these sleep aids contain diphenhydramine (an antihistamine) and can increase your appetite, cause weight gain, etc. Have any of you that have taken these, experienced this side effect??
Mohamed…the website you provided indicated that diphenhydramine can cause stomach distress or upset. Doesn’t say increase of appetite. Why do these other guys like to get us so upset???

It’s an antihistamine, so will it work like diphenhydramine as a sleep aid?

Like, if I were to get my shot tomorrow, I could take an antihistamine tonight and it would have no effect on the efficacy of the shot?

A person I know has very sensitive skin, most notably with itching swollen red lines whenever she gets scratched by anything. Antihistamines can help it a lot and normally she takes a pill a day. When she was unable to take any for a week, at the end her face was red and felt tense, dry, and "stretched out". As usual, when she took an antihistamine pill that completely subsided in a few hours. Can anyone tell us what this is and if it can be cured?

I’m in my first cycle trying to concieve, and I take 180mg of Fexofenadine, daily. Does anyone know if this is effecting my cervical mucus, or if it will effect my baby if I fall pregnant?
I’m in Australia, can anyone recommend a safe antihistamine if it isn’t a good one to take?

I have an allergic reaction whenever I use a certain skin product. It causes swelling of the throat and dark circles under the eyes. If I took an antihistamine and then used the skin product would the symptoms go away?

I took a drowsy antihistamine on accident! I meant to take the non-drowsy formula but they were right next to each other and I took the wrong one. I don’t want to fall asleep cause it’s too early for bed.
What can I do to counter the drowsiness?
Will caffeine help?

If I take an antihistamine for hayfever ("citirizine hydrochloride" it says on the packet) how many hours should it work for and how long should it take to kick in?
Are there any other treatments for hayfever that actually work?

I’ve tried all the antihistamine medications and none of them really worked for me except, Allegra 24 hour antihistamies. if i forget to take a dose, my eyes get really itchy and swollen.
Do I have to take this medication for the rest of my life?

I take benedryll when I have a mild reaction to my food allergy.
I’m looking to try a liquid antihistamine to see if it works faster than chewing up a pill.
But I’m not sure what (type of) chemicals will work on a food allergy.
Most of the liquid antihistamines I found in the pharmacy say ‘non-drowsy’ and I know ‘non-drowsy’ pills won’t do anything for my food allergy.
What should I be looking for?

I know that it is dangerous to drink alcohol and take valium. (valium is an antihistamine, right?)
Is it dangerous for ALL antihistamines? (i.e. Benadryl, diphenhydramine, etc)
I am talking about prescribed average dosages of antihistamines.

I like how benadryl really works with allergies but I dont like how it makes my skin and mouth dry and it can be constipating. Is there another good antihistamine that works as well or even better then benadryl?
Claritin and aerius dont work.

I’m worried that the benadryl, which is also known as diphenhydramine, could have adverse affects when combined with the Doxylamine (antihistamine/hypnotic) in nyquil. Nyquil also contains Dextromethorphan (a cough suppressent) and Acetaminophen (pain/fever reducer). It is also made of 10% alcohol.
Diphenhydramine and the Doxylamine are both sleep aids, which is why I used the two together in the first place.

If she is already taking inhaled steroid inhalers, regular inhalers, etc., is there anything else a pregnant woman can take to help allergic asthma and allergic reactions in serious cases? Can she take a small dose of an antihistamine such as Benadryl to help her get relief from symptoms?
