Think I have a drinking problem…?

I started drinking a long time ago. I found it entertaining and a great way to make boring things fun. Eventually it lead to me drinking with friends, playing beer pong, etc. I hit a discovery that it helps me to go to bed once, so I drank occasionally when i couldn’t go to sleep. Of course, I would keep drinking to go to sleep in moderation. If you drink too much you won’t have proper REM cycles and the sleep I tried to gain would become useless.

Anyways, since the first of this year till now… I believe I have had about 15 to 20 sober days. A week ago I drank one half a liter of Heaven Hill Vodka (my favorite form of alcohol). I woke up with NO hangover. For some odd reason Heaven Hill just doesn’t give me hangovers… my brother said it is because I drink it often enough that I built up a tolerance and slowly worked away hangovers. With no hangover, I drank another half a liter of HH. Two days later i drank another half liter of HH. After that I decided to slow down, so I am on my 4th sober day (after 2 months of drinking solid), but i find not drinking boring. It gets late… I watch television…

Anyone have any comments on what i should do? I wouldn’t bother slowing down normally, but I thought about it and realized I am only 18……..

I read that somewhere. It said that the alcohol causes you to not go into REM sleep and that’s why you’re so tired after drinking, even when you sleep a lot.

This is probably a strange question. I’m just wondering how many sleeping pills someone would need to take in order to kill themselves though. I’m just curious because a friend wants to try eating a bottle for fun. Would mixing alcohol with them make much of a difference?

What other types of easily obtainable pills could potentially kill someone if they had the whole bottle?

There’s a lot of garbage written on other pages, i’m just really looking for legitimate answers.
Also, how long would it take for these things to kill someone too?

Why does Nyquil contain alcohol?

Wouldn’t it be counterproductive? Whenever I drink alcohol, I have a harder time sleeping. Supposedly, alcohol prevents you from entering your REM cycle.

Is it psychology?

I am very interested in learning about this.. I was just looking up melatonin and seasonal depression (cause I was interested.) What major would this be in college? I dont really like biology too much (like the details bore me), but I like WHY what kind of effects drugs/alcohol have on us RATHEr than what all caused it in the body

I’ve smoked for years, and I’ve never really felt like I’ve had any problems with my focus and memory during this time. A couple of months ago though, I decided to quit smoking cold turkey. I had many of the typical symptoms a quitter has such as anxiousness, insomnia, irritability, etc. During the first two weeks I also had a hard time focusing and remembering things, but I figured this was due mainly to the lack of sleep. After about a month I started to sleep a little better, but my memory and focus is still bad. I am also under a lot of stress. Since I’ve quit smoking, I’ve also stopped hanging out with almost all my friends, mainly because they all smoke and many of them do not respect my decision to quit, and I’ve also recently started going to school again. I hate the feeling that I can not control my anxieties anymore because I used to use cigarettes to help calm me down in very stressful situations, which now makes those anxious times even worse because I do not have that relief that I used to rely on. Now it’s possible that this memory and concentration problem is due to both the stress and lack of nicotine, but I’ve been stressed out before and never felt like I had this problem, so I am mostly blaming the quitting of cigarettes. What I’d like to know is why is this happening and when will it stop? This is really not good. I have even thought about maybe smoking again for a little bit, to see if maybe I can get my memory and concentration back to how it was, because I am starting to wonder if by quitting cold turkey I may have given my brain a sudden shock which may have affected my memory and focus for who knows how long. Also, since I’ve quit smoking, I’ve tried to live healthy by watching what I eat, exercising and not drinking, though I’ve never been addicted to alcohol, just cigarettes. This problem is very frustrating. I need some serious advice here.

My sister just got a prescription for Ambien, and she was all pleased to hear that the effects can be increased with alcohol use, so she now want to take it with a glass or two of wine.
While I havn’t heard of that amount being able to kill you, I’m still concerned.
Note: She’s not planning to get very drunk, or take more Ambien than prescribd. She just wants to "enhance" it with some wine. What would this do? What would she feel?

Sleep Problems?

I’m 19. I go to college and work from 5pm to midnight during the week, usually on the weekend too. I’ve noticed now that I haven’t been sleeping well at all, either. I usually can’t fall asleep now until 8am or later, and I have to be up by 2-3pm. Most nights I don’t get a good night sleep, either. I think I may have depression, so I’m thinking that could be what’s effecting this. I just haven’t been in to see a doctor yet. The past couple of days I’ve had to take something like Nyquil or some alcohol just to get tired so I could go to sleep. Could it just be depression, or maybe something else?

I heard that alcohol cancels the affect of pills, so if someone tries to OD on sleeping pills but drinks alcohol right after, will it not kill the person or damage him?
