Im hoping someone can give me some good advice. I have a horrible time trying to sleep every night. I used to take Lexapro because I have serious anxiety issues (PTSD). I began taking the medication simply because I couldn’t sleep. I had to stop taking the Lexapro b/c my husband and I are trying to have a baby, and it needs to be out of my system. I was doing okay for many months off the medication, but recently, I started taking fertility drugs and those have increased my anxiety (the dr. says it’s because of the rise in hormone levels). Anyway…when I try to sleep at night, I have these horrible anxiety problems. It’s almost like that feeling you get when you know you’re in trouble. (Heart beats really fast, and I get that weird burning feeling in my chest, neck and face–ya know what I mean?) Sometimes I can take a Valium and sleep okay, but Im afraid of not being able to sleep without those if we get pregnant. Anyone have any good drug-free alternatives?
I might try the music…I can’t take any diphenhidramine (sp?) which includes over the counter sleep aids and benedryl. (Doc’s orders…they actually make sleeping worse).
Sigh…no melatonin allowed, either, while trying to concieve. Thanks for your suggestions tho!!

For the past few weeks, I’ve been unable to get to sleep or even stay sleeping. It’s really taking a tole on me as well; I am physically exhausted and very weak…
I’ve been getting about 2 hours of sleep every night, sometimes none, sometimes a little more, but its nowhere near as much sleep that I need.
Does anyone have any tips on how to make yourself fall asleep?
(I have tried over the counter natural sleeping aids, but I don’t think they help.)

I’ve tried Melatonin in different dosages over the past three years or so, but it hasn’t been any help. I’m eighteen years old now, and the doctor that my insurance covers doesn’t want to prescribe sleep aids, though I’ve suffered from only sleeping two to five hours a night since early childhood.
I tend to have trouble falling asleep, and I ALWAYS wake up after each REM cycle (rather than following the 1, 2, 3, 4, dream, 1, 2, 3, 4, dream pattern that people are supposed to, I wake up after each dream part. Also, I suffer from severe nightmares at least once every night (most times more like two or three times a night).

I’m guessing it was suicide. I didn’t know the guy personally but I still think it was suicide via sleeping pills. There were five different prescriptions of sleeping aids similar to Ambien near his body. He also said in a recent interview that since he had a daughter he was now free to die because he could live on in her.

It is not working for me as well anymore. Any suggestions on other sleep aids, preferably one that is approved for long term use? I have been taking Ambien for almost 4 months, almost every night.

I told my doctor that I was having trouble paying attention in class, and he prescribed me some ADD medicine. It gives me lots of energy, and if I take a few, I feel really good. The problem is it keeps me awake.
Is there a way to take lots of methylphenidate and then fall asleep so I feel good in my dreams? I’d rather not take any sleep aids, since they do the opposite.

I have tried Benadryl, Tylenol PM, Tylenol Simply Sleep, Unisom, and Sleep MD. They all work about the same for me, so I was just wondering if anyone knew of any other types or brands of sleep aids that I could try? Also, do all over the counter sleeping pills have the same ingredients or is there an ingredient I should look for? I’m just trying to find something that works once and for all, or maybe I just need to switch it up so I don’t get addicted!

I can usually fall asleep within 30 mins of laying down. Occasionally it will take a little bit more than this. The problem is that I just can’t stay asleep!! I haven’t slept through the night in over a week and I’m going nuts.
I’ve taken over the counter sleep aids in the past and I hate the way they make me feel in the morning. Does anyone have any drug free advice on how to sleep through the night? Is there anything at all I can do?

So I always have sleep problems…I have been diagnosed with clinical insomnia, have taken many different sleep aids (natural and prescription) and have seen off and on temporary relief. I generally, without the aid of medication, get between 3 and 5 hours of sleep per night. It is not uncommon to go a night or two with less than two hours though. In the past four nights I have slept at most, a total of 2 hours (accumulated by dozing off and immediately waking back up). I was sick all weekend with a bad coldish thing, and now am feeling slightly better on those symptoms, but am feeling very shaky, weak, emotional, nausious…etc.
This happened once in highschool, and lasted about a week…I can’t do that again–I have two important tests as this is my last week of summer school. Do I need to go to the doctor? At what point will serious effects begin to occur? I don’t know what to do, I just feel like crying!
Any advice?

I have a very hard time falling asleep at night and once I do fall asleep, I am up about 15-20 minutes later. My doc suggested Lunesta, but the Medical Card does not cover that. I’ve even tried OTC sleep aids and they don’t work either….HELP!!!!! I need SLEEP something bad. All opinions appreciated…..and thank you

I have always had a hard time sleeping…I go from extremes of insomnia to sleeping so often it is near narcolepsy. I also have chronic nightmares, occasional sleep walking, lots of sleep talking, wake often during the night, and have sleep paralysis about once or twice each month, worse when I’m having a bad nightmare fit or extreme stress. The thing is, its not disrupting my life, but I know it would be nice to actually sleep well. I’ve dealt with all this my whole life, so i’m not even sure anyone could fix it. Also, I do not want to become dependant on sleep aids or anything…been there, done that V_V
Thanks in advance for anyone with advice ^_^
By not disrupting my life, I guess I mean I am accustomed to it and know how to cope…again, I can not remember a time before sleep problems. Its just normal for me…but I would like a chance to make it better!

In school, i learned that sleep aids made you skip REM sleep, so it would have been better to go with alternative less medicated methods to sleep. I’ve heard people though say that, on sleep aids they wake up replenished just the same as if they had their REM sleep. So was the information outdate, or possibly something overlooked?
