Ok, I have bad ADHD and I can’t sleep at all. My Doctor gave me Rozerem, and told me that it would work. But it really doesn’t and i am wondering if i can take two. He (My doctor), said that if it doesn’t work that he wants to lower my ADHD med. Then I will be hyper and sleepless. What should i do?
Hi, I’m 15 and have needed AT LEAST an hour every night to fall asleep for as long as I can remember. I have never been fully rested since I started having this problem who-knows-how-long ago. I really need help with it, though, because it is starting to really hurt me in school. Through my 9th grade year I found myself daydreaming more than I ever had before. Even before, like back to 5th grade, I never could focus easily in class and found myself taking a long time to push through my work. I am a solid A/B student and have been my whole life, but have also had trouble finishing something and not getting distracted. So, I told my mom about this because I thought that it was ADD or ADHD, but I tested negative for that. Anyways, the past few days, I’ve noticed I don’t fall asleep until 2 A.M. at the earliest and don’t wake up until 10 A.M. at the earliest. It just recently hit me that this could be insomnia when I started thinking of how this girl in my school is an insomniac. This insomnia is making it really hard to focus in school and it is also making me irritable and giving me terrible mood swings. I would blow up at people for trying to be nice and talking to me, or touching me by accident, or other ridiculous things like that. Because of this, I never do my homework when it is not graded and do it at the last minute when it is (or I should say did. I’m on break right now). I’m annoyed by nearly everything my parents or brothers do and also by really simple things that I know SHOULD NOT bother me at all, but they do. It takes me FOREVER to finish a cross stitch, no matter how small, just because I cannot concentrate on ANYTHING for a long time. Sorry if I repeated some things.
Anyways, I have an appointment with a pediatrician on July 7th for my degenerative TMJ, knee and hip joint pains, and also my acid reflux. She is supposed to be a really great diagnostician. Should I ask her about my insomnia?
Also, my mom sees no problem that it takes so long to fall asleep, but it is a big problem for me. How can I express that to her better?
Thanks for all the help and answers. I’m sorry this is so long.
Most athletes I know use caffeine to get that extra boost of energy during performance, but with ADHD, caffeine has the opposite effect. Now, I may occasionally be a little hyper, but nothing compared to my other friends with a Red Bull or Monster in them. I want to know if there is anything I could take that would be comparable. Thanks!
I read that adderall is commonly prescribed for narcolepsy or ADHD. However, it is reported that daily dosage of more than 40mg is "rarely more effective" in comparision to a maximum of 40mg per day as a treatment for ADHD. So i am curious what are the indications adderall is prescribed for that requires a daily dosage of more than 40mg?
I see a psychiatrist for depression, panic disorder, adhd, ocd, anxiety, and suspected bipolar. My doctor isn’t sure about the bipolar part. But I’ve done research and I have every symptom but I have way more lows than highs. There are people in my life that are convinced i have bipolar disorder. I’m seeing my doctor tomorrow morning, but I was just wondering if it’s possible to have bipolar with much more lows than highs. Or is it more likely that my symptoms are caused by my severe depression and severe panic disorder?
Im 13 and i have ADHD and i have REALLY BAD sleeping problems. It takes me at least 2 hours to fall asleep. and i was wondering Is it normal to have sleeping problems at 13?
his ADHD med is dexidrine 5mg 1 in the a.m. & 1 in afternoon, then for his insomnia they give him the clonidine @ .01mg. Some times he has crying spells, is that normal or a side effect that will go away?
She is beyond angry during the day, and does not sleep but maybe three hours at night. She has been in medication for ADD/ADHD/Bipolar but we are taking her off it all, any suggestions?
Is it possible for a teenager with no family history known of bipolar disorder to develop the disorder after going through extremely traumatic events over a period of 2 years? Or is the disorder strictly genetic?
Well I have no history, and I believe I also have ADHD. The main thing I was a little bit iffy about, is that the only symptom of bipolar+inattentive adhd I don’t have is the ‘depression cycle’. When I start to become depressed, I get hyper instead? Kind of like the adhd takes over to make sure nothing bad happens?
My son has been tentatively diagnosed with early onset bipolar disorder. He is 10 years old. He was previously diagnosed (at great expense) with ADHD. I am frightened for his future and there is little information out there about how to effectively parent a bipolar child. Anyone have experience with this? Hints, tips, advise?

I’ve had trouble sleeping for a long time and I normally take Vanes in the morning around 6am for ADHD. At night I typically take .15mg of clonidine for help sleeping and if it doesn’t help then I take 10mg of zolpidem but I always wake up 5 hours later. Is this normal?
I also wake up with a headache and feeling a little sick after those 5 hours.
i have a child with adhd and she has problems with sleeping and going bed i will take her to bed and get her comfy read her a story and when i come out of her room within 5mins she is crying sayin that she cannot sleep if u have a child with adhd do u have the same probs. Thanks in advance.
I would like to hear from people who either are bipolar or know someone close that is and what there experience is with it? What meds they might be on? How severe is it? What things were noticed as a child? My 4 year old is seeing a behavior specialist and they are thinking maybe Bipolar Disorder so I am just wondering about others. I know a few people with it and as kids to hear their parents describe them sounds like they are talking about my son.
Description of my son: His mood swings vary from moment to moment. He can be hugging and loving one minute and then decide to punch me or whoever or kick or even bite then when he finally calms down he says he is sorry and that his brain made him do it and he didn’t mean it. He has moments through the day where he seems to become depressed and he just lays down and won’t move, eat or anything. He can go from laughing and playing to crying like someone flipped a switched. I never know how he is going to act from one minute to the next. He can be perfectly find one minute and mean the next then depressed and then happy again without any warning. He has talked about buring the house down and stabbing people then acts like he never said any of it. His imagination just runs wild. He is very sensitive. Say the wrong thing and he will usually go off like a ticking time bomb is inside him. He has talked about killing killing himself and me having to bury him in the ground
Original thoughts were ADHD as his father is ADHD and I am ADD however his uncle and aunt on his fathers side are Bipolar. I know a lot of kids get labled with ADHD and get on the meds and it makes them mean because in all reality it isn’t ADHD they just label kids with that when they don’t want to take time to get to the real problem and sometimes they miss Bipolar until it is to late and kids have a police record and/or end up dead so if he has it i want to know now but i am hoping he doesn’t and that he is just a moody kid but i am sure that is what a lot of parents say when they find out about bipolar too, just hoping their child is just "sensitive"
Just to note though this is only a thought by his preschool (that has exprience with bipolar children) and his other drs. He hasn’t seen the behavorial specialist yet to determine anything for sure that is why i am asking for experiences.
Oh yeah and yes my son is a sugar addict. He is hypoglycemic so he just got use to craving the sugar but we are monitoring his intack and even without high sugar, red dye or caffine he is still extremly moody but if it is just the food thing I would prefer that, atleast I could change his eating habits.
