My best friend for 8 years has always had a problem with waking up in the mornings. This started way back around middle school or high school and still is affected to this day at age 23. Mostly, i’ll go wake him up, and he gives automatic responses to my questions, even open his eyes, and talks to me for a bit, but just doesn’t get up and get around and get the day started. Usually I have to keep this act up for 30 minutes to several hours. Any idea what this could be, and how to solve this problem? Thanks.

Why is it that when you wake up, and your still tired, you press the snooze button, but 10 minutes later the alarm goes off and you feel wide awake? I know no sleep actually occurs, in order for you to enter back into a rem cycle it can take 30 minutes to an hour, with an average time being 45 minutes. So your not actually resting, your more or less just in a passed the fuck out state of mind.
Also what is with it with the time of the snooze timer itself, is there some actual science behind the notion that it takes roughly 10 minutes for your body to wake up and the sensation of being tired to leave your system, or is it just some random number the clock makers came up with and put on the clock to try and make some extra money by at one time saying our alarm clock can do something that no other alarm clock can?

My doctor diagnosed me with insomina on Friday and gave me a few samples of Lunesta (2 mg) to try. I’ve been taking a pill every night 20-30 minutes before bed time, but they don’t seem to work. I do not get sleepy at all, still lay there for an hour before falling asleep, wake up several times during the night, and get up before i’m supposed to, plus i’m still extremely groggy during the day.
i was just wondering if anyone else had tried Lunesta and had the same problems with it not seeming to work..if so, what step did you take next? did you try anohther sleeping medication? my doctor said i could go on a higher dosage, i was just surprised that 2 mg/night didn’t seem to have any effect whatsoever..

Something wiered happened the other night. I probably went to bed around 9:30 ( VERY early for me usually I’m asleep by 1) and I woke back up at about 2, I wasn’t tired so I watched some TV for 30 minutes or so. At 2:30 I was trying to sleep again and the last time I can remember looking at the clock was at 2:44. Almost seamlessly I feel like I fell asleep and woke back up to find myself completely paralyzed, I remembered reading something about sleep paralysis while I couldn’t move and was fine for a minute but then freaked out a little bit when I thought I heard footsteps… Anyway I woke up to see the clock at 3:07 which makes no sense because REM sleep I thought was where this paralysis occurred. And I thought the REM cycle only occurs after 1 hour of sleep or so. Does anyone have an explanation?
By the way I’m 17 and in pretty good shape with no nueral problems…

I remember back in a psychology class we learned about the sleep cycles. I don’t remember the technical terms for it but I do remember learning about the REM stage. Which is apparently where most dreams take place. I thought I recalled them saying that is your most deep sleep and it takes a few hours to get to that stage. My question is, how is it possible for me to lay down to sleep, have an extremely vivid dream, then wake to find I have only been asleep for 20 or 30 minutes? Is this normal?

It takes me a minimum of 30 minutes to go to sleep, on a very good day. Usually i will lay in bed for hours without falling asleep. How long should it take for me to fall asleep, and how long is average to fall asleep?
This has been a persisting problem for years now, is there any medication I can seek to help me with this?

Okay, so I’m 13 years old and school starts on Tuesday. I’ve been going to bed early this week so I could get used to it.
I’ve noticed that I’ve been having some problems falling asleep lately. Like, I would go to bed around 9 and listen to my iPod for less than like 30 minutes and lay there and try to sleep but I always end up staying awake until like 12. This causes me to get up at around 11 or 12 in the afternoon.
Now, don’t get me wrong. I’m a healthy person. I exercise regularly, I eat right, and I drink plenty of water. I just don’t understand how I can’t fall asleep. I’d very much appreciate some help considering the fact that school starts soon and I don’t want to wake up late or end up being drowsy in school. So any tips?
thanks for your help, and serious answers only.

I can lay still at night. I move around for about 30 minutes before I even go to sleep, and by that time I’m usually sweating from it being hot.
What should I do to help me go to sleep?

I’m running Vista with SP1 and have been experiencing several different problems with the sleep and hibernate functions
Hibernate-
1. About every 3 in 4 hibernations (spontaneously) the laptop will have an incomplete hibernation. The computer will begin to hibernate by first shutting off the screen, but the processor will keep running and the power LED will stay on (sometimes the wireless LAN LED stays on too).
When this happens, the computer is pretty much in a suspended state and even if I press the power button to try and resume my session nothing happens. I always have to resolve this by doing a forced manual shutdown by holding down the power button for a few seconds.
Sleep-
1. Same problem as Hibernate problem 1 (incomplete/suspended sleep mode), always resolve with forced manual shutdown.
2. About half the time when I put the computer to sleep, it’ll go to sleep for 20-30 minutes, then suddenly reboot, saying windows experienced unexpected shutdown etc.
My VAIO is factory refurbished and I’ve had it for about 2 months

I have a ton of trouble getting to sleep at night. Takes me atleast 30 minutes to an hour or more every night. Very rarely i just fall asleep right away. Are there any non dangerous sleeping pills or something? Ones without side affects or anything? Thanks for your answers.

Started taking a mag/calcium/zinc supplement and about 30 minutes after taking it I felt sleepy, but not "knocked out" tired just almost a calm, peaceful type of sleepiness. Is this common? If so, it could be a great idea for people with sleep disorders to try before bedtime instead of conventional sleeping pills, as most people are deficient in this mineral anyway. Any thoughts?
