Sleep problems…..?
My husband has recently developed some sleep problems. He snores so loud I think the neighbors can hear him(no kidding). He wakes up every 1-2 hours and has trouble falling back asleep. He never feels rested. He has strange, vivid dreams that he actually acts out sometimes. He’s been tested for sleep apnea, but that doesn’t seem to be the problem. Any ideas as to what this could be? Thanks in advance!

He has the symptoms of sleep apnea,
Sleep Apnea
Sleep apnea is a serious sleeping disorder that people will temporarily stop breathing during their sleep. The stop (“without breath”) can last of 10 seconds, a minute or even longer as the airway is being obstructed. It can happen from 20 – 30 within an hour to a few hundred times during a single might sleep.
Sleep Apnea can be caused by either a complete blockage of the airway (called Obstructive Apnea) or by a partial blockage (called Obstructive hypopnea, where hypopnea is a shallow breathing).
Symptoms of Sleep Apnea
→ Excessive daytime sleepiness
→ Fall asleep in work time or watching TV
→ Fall asleep when driving
→ Regularly cessation of breathing during sleep time
→ Non restorative sleep
→ Feel un freshed and exhausted in morning wake up
→ Behavior changes
→ personality changes
→ Hard to concentrate
For myself, I am doing articles on Sleep ApneaTopics, if you would like to get further information, please feel free to visit my blog at http://sleepapnea-insomnia.blogspot.com
Some people are terrible sleepers, they skip various levels or REM sleep, or never achieve it. With the symptoms you described his own snoring is disrupting his sleep. Has he tried breath right nasal strips?
Excersize will help. when he wakes up have him do excruciating excersize or (I dont mean to be rude) lots of sex will make anyone tired enough to sleep.. Try it sometime lol..
tell him to eat something with magnesium before bed.
milk, yogurt…etc. there’s a magnesium tea called "natural calm" you can get it at healthfood stores. or maybe publix.
or you could feed him a banana. it has potassium, and the lack of enough potassium can cause sleep problems.
tell him not to eat a lot of carbs before bed. they’ll bloat you up.
his back may be misalligned. you should try a chiropractor.
Even if he’s not in in any pain, he still could be out of line.
good. luck. sleeping with a bad snorer is BRUTAL.
I would have him tested again for apnea. my hubby has it and had very similar symptoms.
also If he did the sleep study for apnea I’m surprised they couldn’t give him any clues as to what was wrong
Sounds like he has a sleep apnea interfering with his sleep. He may not be getting fully into REM sleep and may stop breathing too. He should go to his doctor, again, and ask to be retested. It’s the best way to determine what’s going on and how to treat it. Also, do not eat anything 2-3 hours before bedtime, no caffeinated drinks or chocolate after lunch and nothing to drink at least an hour before bedtime. Also, try not to fall asleep in front of the TV. No TV time in the bedroom either.
Insomnia
ya there is a strong possibility that it could be sleep apnea. my dad got tested about 3 years ago and he has it. Some symptoms that his Doctor told him are: loud snoring, stopping breathing in your sleep and then catching your breath again, people with short necks and people who are over weight.
These are few of the products.
1) Snoring sprays used in the nasal passages and back of the throat to moisten the tissues and reduce tissue vibrations.
2) Gel strips to be kept on the roof of the mouth and have similar action as sprays.
3) Herbal remedies
4) Nasal Dilators that can be placed inside the nasal passages to keep them open helping easier flow of air.
5) Snoring Pillows that can tell you the moment you snore and record the sound
6) Snoring Surgery (many types)
