Does anyone know of over the counter sleeping pills that are as good as the prescribed ones?

I have a really hard time sleeping and my mother-in-law gave me some sleeping pills. They work very well but they are running out. My doctor doesn’t feel like I have sleeping problems so she won’t prescribe them to me.. Don’t know why if I telling her.

Well I know a pill that ALWAYS puts me right to sleep. I mean RIGHT on the spot! And yes, you can get it over the counter. This pill is called "Benedryl". Go buy some it is great.
To be honest, you really don’t wanna be messing yourself up by developing a reliance on sleeping pills if you can avoid it at all costs. Try eating some turkey at night (seriously, there is an enzyme in turkey which makes you sleepy). Also try a warm glass of milk. I know my answer sounds grandma-esque….but you have to be really careful with sleeping pills (even when they are prescribed).

First of all it is important to find the reason why you have difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep. Age, certain illnesses, medications and personality types can have an impact upon not only your health, but also cause insomnia. You can try relaxation techniques, white noise (works best for me), and whatever you might need to create a soothing, safe environment conducive to sleep. Try not going to bed with problems on your mind. Lastly, don’t eat for at least two hours before you go to bed at night. If you are not physically tired, you might need to get more exercise during the day. The only other thing I know might work is a supplement called Melatonin. Melatonin is a naturally occurring chemical that signals sleep. It helps to regulate your sleep/wake cycle, as does natural light.
I know you have heard this before, but it isn’t safe to take other people’s prescriptions. It was not meant for you, and none of the safe-guards is in place for you to take a medication without prior knowledge of your existing medical conditions, and any other medications you might be taking.

The herb St John’s Wort is very good for sleeplessness. Also, a tincture of Cammomile 5ml taken before you go to bed. Bach flowers sleep remedy, take 4 drops under tongue 4 times per day especially before you go to sleep. Much better to use natural remedies. All the best.
