What is REM sleep? Why is it important? What happens when a person is deprived of REM sleep?
I have on several occasions woke up in the midst of REM sleep. I am completely unable to move and my eyes are still rapidly shifting and I can’t stop them. I have gone so far as to start actually creating dream images within (ie. my robe hanging over the side of a chair became a hooded dwarf) my room. I was perfectly aware that I was in a dream state ( I have lucid dreams also) and knew what I saw was my mind creating a dream image. This long and profound episode came not long after having been hypnotized. Has this happened to anyone else? Does the hypnosis play into it?
trying to learn how to lucid dream, unfortunately my normal sleep patterns dont allow me to reach REM very easily, what are some non-narcotic ways to induce REM?
I heard somewhere that during REM sleep the body becomes immobile and does not move.
Can someone go into REM sleep and not have this happen? I’m asking this because I move a lot during sleep and I ‘act out’ my dreams.
I have very vivid dreams, and I get a good nights’ rest, but I’ve had family members tell me that they’ve seen me running or moving in my sleep; the motions correspond to the type of dream I’m having.
Is this common?
During your ‘Rapid Eye Motion’ era of sleeping, you are paralyzed in order to stop you from acting out your dream (imagine how bad thatd be!) but they say when you dream that you go to the bathroom, you wet the bed in real life. how is this possible if you are paralyzed? thanks!
I found this thread, and it’s pretty important to me. REM sleep is muscle growth and memory sorting and hormone release and all kinds of stuff, right? This might be pretty important

Seems like he did his homework, but I haven’t found it anywhere else. So I turn to you guys: Does marijuana inhibit REM sleep? Not really looking for personal experiences, I’d really like some objective studies from trusted sources. Thanks!
I am writing a scientific report for my neuro class on REM sleep verses non-REM sleep. I am going to use wikapedia but I need some more sites can anyone give me some good sites?
i was wondering because i am considering going on a polyphasic sleep system, but i don’t want to do it if it could cause problems. it has been documented up to six months of people who had no apparent problems and actually had increased energy and such, but i’d still want to know what i’m getting into beforehand. thanks.
