can a sleep aid be prescribed to a recovering alcoholic / addict?

I know that anything can be prescribed to anyone regardless of his or her disability, but I’m not sure if asking my doctor for something to help me sleep is a bad question considering I’m a recovering addict alcoholic.

You don’t say when you stopped drinking, but the lack of alcohol may cause sleeping difficulties, something a doctor would readily understand. There should be no problem in prescribing some sleeping tablets to help you along. Good luck with everything.
Just take OTC Unisom. All prescription sleeping pills are addictive, except lunesta and rozerem, which don’t really work.
