The main goal of therapy and self-help is to identify and break the hurtful patterns with which you respond to life experience. It is less what happens to you and more how you interpret and respond to what happens to you that regulates your experience of depression.

Exercise is the cure for both of those. Do an hour of cardiovascular exercise per day. That will certainly help the depression and should make you feel tired enough for sleep.
Pills are not the answer. If your majorly depressed, it is because your in an unhappy place in your life. You would need to change your environment and start fresh somewhere else. It might be hard, but taking pills will only make it worse in the end. The side effects build up and you just become another pill junkie that makes the pharmaceutical companies richer.
Try Effexor XR; it is the best antidepressant medication out there to date. I am on a low dose and feel great.
If you don’t like this or a lot of other medications then try Vitamin therapy. Nutrients linked to cure depression are:

Edit: Running, walking, or any kind of exercise has no effect on people with clinical depression.
You have a body clock that lets you know when to sleep when to wake when to eat when your sick when your well when you have depression when you have insomnia etc you have to maintain it and there are various ways to do it some are good some are bad for you the key is finding what works and sticking to it until the body clock is running smoothly and progressing in areas that aid the body clock to run with out batterys and with nature or harmoniously at the moment it sounds like your clock needs attention this may involve new batterys symbolic of diet excercise etc hope this helps im struggling with mine at the moment its also known as chakrah research the word chow
